Dear Councilman McDermott,
Dr. Ngozi Oleru, Director, Environmental. Health Services Division, Public Health Seattle/King County has informed me that her office is in the final stage of creating an “On-site Septic System Revolving Loan Program” using state and federal funds for the repair and replacement of septic systems that are polluting Puget Sound. An excerpt from her email is below:
“The Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued by which we are seeking a qualified financial institution to administer the available funds as a permanent revolving loan fund. We anticipate having a loan institution on board by the end of March. Once the chosen financial institution sets up their internal procedures, we expect the proceeds from the loan fund to be available for use for costs related to repairing or replacing malfunctioning on-site septic systems in the Marine Recovery Area. The timeframe will be dependent on the particular institution but I would expect it would be within a month of being chosen.”
Perhaps you would like to announce the good news of this successful collaborative effort by the EPA, WA State and King County officials to Vashon islanders at our Vashon-Maury Island Community Council meeting March 18, 2013 at 7:00 PM. I would be very pleased to introduce you at our meeting. In these times of economic crisis it is great to be able to announce economic success.
I have invited Dr. Oleru and her staff to provide information and explain the loan program.
I thank you for your consideration. Please let me know if you can participate.
