I was a pilot with VMFA-251 from April 1974 until July 1977 and am very
familiar with all three of the losses we suffered during that period. One
was my aircraft, DW-07, 153888, call sign Pokey 07 on 9/16/75. I was a
member of the accident investigation board that looked into the 2/17/76
midair collision that you are asking about between DW-13 and the NFWS A-4E
"Mongoose." Off the top of my head, I can't remember the BUNO of the F-4J
but I will look around. In the meantime, feel free to email me with
specific questions. I've attached a photo taken of Pokey 07 shortly before
I ejected from her. The intentional gear up landing (funny thing---also
Pokey 07) was my handiwork and the aircraft was subsequently destroyed in a
near-fatal crosswind landing accident at Reese AFB in February 1975. I
didn't take the shot of 153908 but it was taken at MCAS Beaufort.

Hi there I am a Aviation Journalist working on a new Phantom Data Book
to be released later this year, it covers all 5068 aircraft with data
on each aircraft. Book is presented in various sections, 1. Complete
listing of all 5068 2. AMARC history 3. Accidents and losses by Year
1959-now Is there any body available to assist with some inquiries
regarding some VMFA-251 Phantom losses and events for example A report
was issued that A F-4J Coded DW-13 collided with a A4 [150009] from
NFWS Miramar on ACM. Does any body have any records of this event
especially the serial number of the phantom. Also looking for VMFA-251
Phantom photos to include in the publication. Many Thanks S.C.EDWARDS
