One more question on processional order please. We are a low church.
Normal procession includes, Verger, Crucifer, Torches, choir, altar
servers and clergy. I have ordered a Dove Liturgical Kite that we
will use on Pentecost and perhaps some other occasions. Where in my
line up do you suggest I place the Kite Bearer?

Thanks in advance,
Rich

At St. Andrew's in Princess Anne, MD, on Pentecost the Kite Bearer goes at
the beginning of the procession, then the Thurifer, and the rest as you
outlined, except we do not have a functioning Verger -- much less a Verger
in procession -- so I don't know if that makes a difference.

We always have our kite lead the procession and then the thurifer. The
acolyte then remains in the area of the crossing waving the kite (we add
long strands of red and white ribbon to it) till the entire procession
passes by then he/she moves off. It is a dramatic effect to have the kite
waving in the front of the church while the precession - with flags -
proceeds up the aisle. For the recession at the start of the first note of
music the kite goes back into the crossing area and starts waving till the
choir moves down from the chancel. It then leads out with the thurifer,
verger, first cross and torches, section of choir, flag, more choir, second
cross and torches, choir, flag, more choir, third cross and torches vergers
then LEM's and clergy.

At Holy Comforter in Vienna, VA we do it a little differently... We lead off as usual with Thurifer, verger, first Cross/torches, choir, Dove Cross (special little carved wooden cross used to lead little kids out for children's chapel during the service and Sunday School), EM's, Dove Kite, 2nd Cross/torches, Gospel, verger, clergy. Depending on how many acolytes I have available on the assigned team, we also often add one or two banners (church and Diocesan). Wherever you decide to put the kite, be sure to allow enough room so the long ribbon tails don't get tangled around crosses, etc.

Also be aware of hanging light fixtures.  One of our acolytes managed to get a long tail hooked in a hanging light fixture.  People clapped when we finally got it untangled…..
