Salvete omnes -
It's that time again, and I hope you are enjoying (or about to enjoy) a terrific new school year with your students. It's always so nice to see them fresh and excited at the beginning of year, and just getting them to stay that way as long as possible is always the trick. One great way to extend that enthusiasm is to get them pumped up about VJCL convention -- road trip, contests, Ludi Frivoli, and getting together with over 1,000 of their closest friends at one of the best annual JCL conventions in the country-- what could possibly be better! This year's event will be held on Nov. 21-22 at the Richmond Convention Center, and we hope that each one of you is planning to bring an enthusiastic contingent from your Latin program.
This e-mail is to invite you and delegates from your school to our VJCL Fall Planning Meeting on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 1:00 pm at Twin Hickory Library in Richmond (Henrico County). This meeting will serve as an opportunity for teachers and delegates to hear the latest, learn about registration and accommodations, share their ideas and help with the planning for various aspects of convention, from Discamus to Ludi Frivoli and College Fair. Convention is always best when lots of students involve themselves in the planning.
Attached is an invitation to our Fall Planning Meeting from our VJCL president, Kelsey Coia. Please share ths information with your officers and any other interested students in your program. We ask that attendees bring a bag lunch or plan to eat before the meeting. The library has a cafe, and there is a Subway in the shopping center next to the library. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. Directions to Twin Hickory Library can be found at their website http://www.henricolibrary.org/Libs/tw.html We look forward to seeing you on Sept. 11.
All the best,
Laurie Covington
