Highlights
Development Fund Matching Campaign Successfully Completed
Earlier this spring, the VIVO community launched a matching campaign to support the
VIVO Development Fund, thanks to a generous commitment from Texas A&M University, which pledged $25,000 to match new community contributions.
We're pleased to share that the campaign successfully reached its goal thanks to the generosity of our community.

VIVO Completes POSI Self-Assessment
As part of its ongoing commitment to transparency, governance, and long-term sustainability, VIVO has completed a comprehensive
self-assessment against the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure (POSI)
thanks to its POSI
Self-Assessment Task Force. The initiative builds on VIVO's commitment to the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information and reflects the community's
dedication to continuously strengthening the project.
Conducted by a community-led task force during the spring of 2026 and formally approved by the Leadership Group in June, the assessment found VIVO to be
fully compliant with 60% of the POSI v2 principles and partially compliant with 35%, with one principle identified as not applicable. VIVO demonstrated particularly strong alignment in the areas of
Governance and Insurance, while identifying Sustainability as the primary area for continued improvement.
Beyond the assessment itself, the task force identified a series of concrete actions to strengthen areas of partial compliance. These recommendations have been prioritized and
formally adopted by the Leadership Group, with the goal of completing them over the next 12 months before conducting a new self-assessment to measure progress. This initiative reinforces VIVO's commitment to remaining a trusted, transparent, and community-governed
open scholarly infrastructure.
VIVO Cloud Pilot Project
We're excited to begin a pilot project, supported by
Columbia University, exploring the next phase of the VIVO Cloud initiative.
The pilot will help validate approaches for delivering VIVO through a cloud-based model while maintaining the flexibility, openness, and community governance that define the
project. More information will be shared as the pilot progresses.

Community Updates
VIVO 1.16 Release Candidate 2
The 2nd Release Candidate for VIVO 1.16 was
made
available for community testing on June 26, 2026. The release includes many features and enhancements in the areas of Customization and UI, Role Management &
Access Control, Reporting & Reuse of Data, and Search Capabilities.
Highlights from the VIVO Panel at CRIS 2026
As in previous editions of the euroCRIS conference, VIVO once again hosted a dedicated panel at
CRIS 2026.
One of the most encouraging outcomes was that many attendees were discovering VIVO for the first time, confirming the importance of bringing the project to the broader CRIS community.
Discussions reflected growing interest in open-source alternatives to commercial research information management systems, with particular attention given to VIVO's development roadmap and its integration with the wider open science ecosystem.
The level of engagement during the session demonstrated that VIVO continues to attract institutions looking for flexible, standards-based, community-governed research information
solutions.

Prior plans to develop a specification for COAR-notify support in VIVO have been postponed.
These specs will be finalized and then plans will begin for implementation. This work is funded by the Lyrasis CST Growth Fund.

Governance Updates
Leadership Group Meetings — April, May & June 2026

The VIVO Leadership Group continued to focus on strengthening both the project and the community through a combination of technical progress, sustainability planning, and strategic
initiatives.
Following the approval of VIVO's updated Organizational Home budget and Memorandum of Understanding, the Leadership Group adopted a strategic direction for the future of VIVO
that embraces a hybrid model supporting traditional self-hosted installations alongside emerging cloud-based services. This work is complemented by the launch of the
VIVO Cloud Pilot, supported by Columbia University, which will help explore new ways of delivering VIVO while maintaining its open, community-governed approach.
The group also made significant progress on long-term sustainability initiatives. The newly established
POSI Self-Assessment Task Force completed its initial assessment of VIVO against the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure, identifying a roadmap of short-, medium-, and long-term improvements that was formally adopted by the Leadership Group.
Work is already underway on several of these actions.
Alongside these strategic efforts, discussions continued on strengthening community engagement through improved onboarding for new users and members, clearer communication about
membership and the Development Fund, and new opportunities to broaden participation in the VIVO community.
On the development side, preparations for the
VIVO 1.16 release continued throughout the quarter, while work also progressed on ORCID integration and the roadmap toward the next generation of VIVO features.
Finally, the Leadership Group celebrated several encouraging developments for the future of the project, including strong community participation in the Development Fund matching
campaign, support for new funding opportunities, and planning for upcoming community events and elections.
