Announcing a new edX Course for Spring 2013

Hi edX student, We’re pleased to announce another exciting course just opened for enrollment – Physics. “I will make you love physics and your life will never be the same.” - Walter Lewin Registration is now open for: 8.02x Electricity and Magnetism (Physics), taught by legendary MIT Professor Walter Lewin, who the New York Times has called “a Web Star” for his blockbuster online videos on physics.   Electricity and Magnetism starts February 18th. The course covers basic physics, as well as topics like why is the sky blue, lightning, magnetic levitation, Aurora Borealis, and particle accelerators. Through his dynamic teaching, contagious enthusiasm and sense of humor, Professor Lewin makes these difficult concepts easy. In addition to Electricity and Magnetism, we have other new and engaging courses starting soon, covering topics ranging from social science to law to classics. (We are also offering popular courses from the prior semester.) So take one or take a few, or simply audit a course - and please tell your friends about these courses, we need your help in telling the world.  Here is the short list, we will continue to update you as more are announced: The Challenges of Global Poverty — an introduction to development economics, from the urgent issues of global poverty and the economic models that might explain them, to the policy implications of those models. Justice — an introduction to moral and political philosophy, including discussions of contemporary dilemmas and controversies. The Ancient Greek Hero — a survey of ancient Greek literature focusing on classical concepts of the hero and how they can inform our understanding of the human condition (intro level). Human Health and Global Environmental Change — an exploration of global environmental changes, examining their causes as well as their health consequences, that engages students in thinking about their solutions. Introduction to Statistics — an introduction to descriptive statistics, emphasizing critical thinking and clear communication. Quantum Mechanics and Quantum Computation — a simple conceptual introduction to quantum mechanics and quantum computation.
