I've purchased and installed Vitadroid without any problem. I entered
the 32 alphanumeric code but when I try to check my lists I get an
"Invalid Server Response". My first thought was that I had entered the
code incorrectly but I've triple checked and the code appears to be
correct. What else do I need to do?

Hi John,

thank you very much for taking the time to report this problem. I'm
very
sorry that you have such problems with Vitadroid and will try the best
I can to resolve this issue...

I can confirm that the problem you are describing is not related to an
invalid API Key. The error you are seeing is related to the
communication
between Vitadroid and the Vitalist servers.

It would help me to isolate the problem if you could answer a few
further questions:

* On which phone did you installed Vitadroid?
* Do you perhaps know which version of Android it runs?
* Does this error appear only when you click some specific folder
or does it happen on every folder?
* Does the "Quick-Add Action" on the folder list screen work?

Kind regards

Christian

Just one additional note:

I've updated Vitadroid to version 1.0.1 this morning. The update
includes a more detailed error message on server communication errors.
This may also help to identify the exact problem you have...

Kind regards

Christian

Christian,

Thanks for getting back to me! To answer your questions:

1. Nexus One
2. Android 2.1
3. It happens with every folder.
4. I get the same "Invalid Server Response" when I try to use the
quick-add-function.

Hi,

thank you very much for your patience with Vitadroid. :-)

Did you update Vitadroid via the Market to version 1.0.1? You can
verify this by clicking on the "About" menu item on the home screen.
If you are on version 1.0.1, you should see a message like this, when
the communication with the Vitalist servers fails:

============ DIALOG ==============================

Invalid server response. Please contact our support if this happens again.

Error details:

<some error>

==================================================

It is very weird that even quick adding of action fails on your phone.
This lets me think of a more general communication problem between the
Vitalist servers and your phone.

Which kind of data connection do you use? Do you perhaps try to use
the application over a cooperate WIFI connection? In this case there
may be some issue with content filtering or proxy servers.

If you tried Vitadroid via a WIFI connection you could try to use 3G
or the other way around.

I tested Vitadroid against Android 2.1 in the emulator. So I don't
think this could be an issue.

Thank you once more for your help debugging the problem and your patience.

Kind regards

Christian

Chris,

You're right -- I didn't update to the newest version of Vitadroid.
Now, the error message gives this additional information. "Error
Details: Response: 400 Bad Request."

The same error occurs whether I use 3G or WiFi.

John,

this error message ("400 Bad Request.") is the response of the
Vitalist server to the request sent by Vitadroid. This means, that the
Vitalist server don't accept the request for some reason.
Unfortunately the Vitalist server doesn't tell us what exactly is
going wrong here.

I will try to dig into the problem tomorrow. I'm hoping to find the
reason why Vitadroid does not work on your device.

I'll come back to you tomorrow. Hopefully with some good news,
although I can't promise it.

If we don't manage to get Vitadroid working on your phone, I will of
course refund you the money you paid for the app.

Kind regards

Christian

Hi John,

I'm still digging into the issue you are describing. I think I found
something that _may_ be the cause of your problem but I will need a
little bit more time to check this...

In the meantime you could try two more things:

* Update Vitadroid to the just published version 1.0.2. This version
will try to collect more debugging information on server communication
errors like the one you are describing. If you then get more or
different information in the error dialog, please net me know.
* You could try to reset your API key on the Vitalist preferences
page. This will generate a new API key for your account. Then you'll
have to insert this new API key in the Vitadroid preferences. This way
we could make sure that the problem is not related to your Vitalist
API key.

Christian,

1. I upgraded the software the error message now states:

400 Bad Request
Message: SSL required

2. I changed the API key but I am still receiving the same error
message.

Thanks,

John,

thank you very much for your response. I think your last message
contained the final hint I needed to find the problem you are having
with Vitadroid. Seems like you have a "Basic" or "Premium" account
with Vitalist, correct? Sounds like the server does require the client
to use SSL for API request in this case.

I will add this feature as soon as possible to Vitadroid. Expect an
update in 1 or 2 days.

Thank you very much for your help in identifying this problem.

Kind regards

Christian

John,

I just released version 1.0.3 of Vitadroid to the Android Market. This
version should fix your problems. Just click the checkbox "Enable SSL"
in the preferences. I'm looking forward to your feedback.
