KAREN GOODFELLOW
My land-based art is part of my journey back to my indigeneity. I feel like an alchemist by blending elements of indigenous sensibilities, eco-conscious artifacts, and a touch of whimsy.
My studio is a cauldron where creativity bubbles and golden possibility emerges from discarded treasures. No doubt that my ancestors, both indigenous and Austrian, are cackling while they watch.
We tread upon this Mother’s skin, drink from her rivers, and shelter beneath her trees.
Through art, I explore our symbiotic relationship with her while she urges us to be stewards rather than conquerors.
I invite you to consider how together we can honour Mother Earth even more so.

Bark Couture * The 3 Sisters * Love Never Gets Old
People often comment on how prolific I am (especially considering I create every other year and only a few months). They would be surprised to know I have just as many unfinished pieces or dog paintings that will never see the light of day. Another thing that people don’t know, and that I’m embarrassed to reveal, is the sheer amount of found objects in my studio! I justify it by saying I am keeping it all out of the landfill but truth be known, I have pieces that I feel are too precious to incorporate into a sculptural piece or a mixed media painting. I also love the inspiration of a garage door coil, old jewelry, rusty crusty hardware, old sweaters, Tyvek housing plastic, or thrift store finds (like the beak on the Eagle Spirit Totem). -- KAREN GOODFELLOW
