This exhibit is a collection of close-ups from nature and man-made subjects.

I find it very thought provoking to look at a subject in close proximity because it opens up a whole new way of observing and thinking about it.

My background is that I am a Speech Pathologist by profession.  In my capacity as a Speech Pathologist,

I have spent some time traveling to do my work in a number of countries.  During these travels, over the last thirty years I was drawn to photography.

The most important thing for me is that the art gives pleasure to the viewer as well as stimulating new ways of looking at things.

-- Elizabeth Kerr

Working with clay is absorbing and satisfying - the way it feels in your hands and takes any form or shape you choose.

I think it helps to develop concentration and to focus the mind – something I love to see on the faces of my students.

But for me it is more. My work as a ceramicist and instructor has helped bring purpose, meaning and direction in my life after losing our eldest child, Rachel.

After Rachel, we moved to Squamish, I started my own business, CLAYTIVITY. Since then it has connected me to a wider community of ceramic and other artists, students, families, and educators.

It plays an important role in an ongoing healing process.

-- Rosemary Slater
