SHANNON MCLACHLAN
El Ejido
Photography
A photo study of El Ejido, an area of southern Spain
where the greenhouses dominate the coastline of Andalusia.

This Exhibit explores our relationship with food and the effects of our habits as consumers on environments and cultures. My artwork is about starting conversations. It is a catalyst to imaging alternative realities and more optimistic futures. My artwork is a critical reflection of the norms that have become engrained in western societies. It aims to highlight the things we take for granted and the effect this has on the wider community of humans, animals and plants. I consider myself to be an experimental artist, I am interested in ideas, and use any medium that will best convey it. I find photography to be a source of mindfulness. It allows me to be present and notice the unnoticed. I studied Design Investigations at the University of Applied arts in Vienna where the course focused on Speculative Design and Critical Thinking.
