These thoughts are based on the presentation I made at the VSN meeting
on the 12th December
Open source software now seems to have passed a threshold of
functionality and reliability that makes it a realistic option for
many professional uses. New cost models are starting to develop that
seem to have the potential to ensure long term commercial viability of
the software. The software is free, but support costs money has
merit, especially when one considers that traditionally many users
unreasonably expect free support having paid for the software. I for
one gladly pay maintenance when the support is worthwhile.
But what are the options for open source technology roadmapping
software. Currently there are no options at all.
Is this really true or does someone out there know of something that I
do not?
I'd really appreciate a line from anyone who knows differently.
