I am exploring the use of ViSta version 7; my thanks to the developers
for maintaining this innovative freeware.

However, I can't seem to open any files. From the File menu, selecting
"Open" or "Import" causes ViSta 7.x to crash immediately. I have
reinstalled in a clean folder and the problem persists.

ViSta version is 7.9.2.5. Computer is 64-bit Windows 7 with current
service pack. On a different computer, I had been able to import files
successfully as well as save/open files using the old 6.4 version, and
wondered if this is a compatibility issue?

Anyone able to offer advice?

Thanks,

Tim

The problem could be Windows 64, it works fine in Windows 32 (this is
what I use)

Sir, thanks for letting me into the loop. I am yet to use the software on Win7 and will trouble you if I get stuck ! I will also get to Mr.Timothy Baker in case he finds a solution to his problem. Anyway, many thanks for the freeware software.

I had the old version (6.4) installed on a 32-bit Win 7 machine, and that worked -- I may try to upgrade it to the new one.

I use 32-bit because I am unsure whether ViSta will work with 64. Is not there a compatibility mode for old software in 64-bit?

I am not very advanced in stats,

If you need help on this, we might help

and I wanted to try a parallel analysis for a dataset with 106 variables (a survey questionnaire) and about 1,500 responses. The problem for me is that conventional factor analysis identified 27 factors with eigenvalues greater than 1. However, parallel analysis also yielded a large number of factors. Very interesting however... I will keep experimenting with Vista. (By the way, the movies are very helpful!)

106 variables of a survey? I think it is reasonable you do find a large number of factors.

Universidad de Valencia... Disculpe que no conozco Espana, de casualidad manejan el castellano en su region?

Si, aunque mucha gente también habla el idioma local
