It does both metric and non-metric. It depends on which module you did use.

Dear Pedro,

Thank you for Vista 7 software package. We always use it for MDS for visualization of genetic data using Fst or Rst genetic distances in population comparison.
Could you be so kind as inform me your MDS contruction is non metric MDS (NMDS) or metric MDS? What is difference from classical MDS (PCoA=Pricipal Coordinates Analysis)? I am discussing with a reviewer of my paper regarding different MDS , so that your answer will be very useful for me.
