Hello Everyone,

The latest version (1.2.0) of VisTrails/SAHM is ready for release.  It can be obtained from: https://my.usgs.gov/catalog/RAM/SAHM   If you had a previous installation you will want to uninstall it, delete the folder it was installed in (perhaps: C:\VisTrails_SAHM) and also delete your .vistrails folder (often: C:\Users\<<you user name>>\.vistrails) prior to installing this version.

Any feedback, questions, or problems encountered are welcome.

In this version:
  • Windows installer now includes a compatible version of R with all required libraries.
  • Improved and simplified tutorial.
  • Added 'module suspended' functionality to model executions.  Users no longer need to click execute a second time after their models finish executing asynchronously.
  • Module output caching has been added.  Modules no longer re-run and re-produce intermediate output unless something has changed upstream in the workflow, even if VisTrails has been restarted!
  • Spreadsheet is automatically configured to display the correct number of output cells and put the output on a sheet named after the node being executed.
  • Data organization in the session folder is much easier with the addition of an 'OutputName' module that allows for naming and organizing outputs in subfolders.
  • Spreadsheet map cells now have state boundaries overlaid on map viewer.
  • General geospatial viewer spreadsheet cell allows for more complex views with raster vector overlays and flexible symbology.
  • Update from VisTrails 2.0 to 2.2
  • numerous bug fixes and minor enhancements.

Hi Colin:

Happy New Year!

I just tried to access the latest version (1.2.0) of the SAHM package at https://my.usgs.gov/catalog/RAM/SAHM and there is no file listed. Has it been removed? Do we need to use the GitHub site to download instead? https://github.com/ColinTalbert/sahm/tree/SAHM_1_2

There is another individual in my department who wants to start using the SAHM package so they don't have any previous versions installed. Per the instructions in the users guide, I wasn't sure whether using GitHub would work for them.

Thank you!

Virginia

Hello Virginia,

Happy new year to you.

The file is there but for some reason is not showing up for the public.  I'll follow up with the ScienceBase administrators to see why not.  If I can't get this resolved today I'll get you a copy of the installer some other way.

Thanks,
Colin

Hello Colin,

I installed VisTrails and SAHM from the link on a new computer and uninstalled before reinstalling on another. I think that was already the most up-to-date version so I just broke it. It now asks me to update python (don't know how to do that) and it will start a pipeline and just stop without throwing errors. It's on "Template Layer" which is maybe the first thing it does anyway. 'Template Layer' is red, everything else is blue, and it seems to be stalled.

Could python be the problem? I seem to have R-3.2.0 loaded, Maxent is downloaded. I just get a "IPython.qt.console.rich_ipython_widget" failed. It then tries to install bundle, says Requirement already satisfied, but asks me to consider upgrading via the 'python -m pip install --upgrade pip' command (but where, how?)

Hello Michelle,

Hard to say what's gone wrong.  If you did it recently you should have VisTrails 2.2.3 and SAHM 2.0.1, is that correct?  But that doesn't sound like your problem.  You shouldn't need to upgrade python or any of the python modules.

If the template is red, what's the error message when you hover over the template module?

Ah, the hover trick. That was an easy one to fix - it told me the path wasn't correct.

However, on my new install I thought maybe I could try the most recent version from GitHub. I cannot enable SAHM - says "MissingDependency: ... edu.utah.sci.vistrails.matplotlib"

Says location is C:\VisTrails_SAHM\vistrails\core\packagemanager.py, line 645.

Maybe python is the problem this time?

I would download from GitHub at this point.  I just rebuilt the installer last week with the latest updates.  It has the exact version of what's on GitHub.  Could it be possible that you had the wrong branch checked out from GitHub, that error seems a bit strange?  I need to review the instructions for updating from github to make sure it's pointing to the master or at least 2.0.* branch
