Iam looking to see which is the best version of MFME for me to use now. I have some of the older versions and some older emulations but I ma looking to generally use just 1 MFME version so that I do not have multiple MFME version files clogging up my Laptop.
I also want to get ideas from you guys to see which are the best Fruit Machine emulations out there on the system so far that are the best to play for enjoyment purposes. Certain machines can be really predictable and therefore become boring after a while. You know when they are going to pay out and when they are going to be tough on you.
I also want to be as involved as I can with the creation side of things. Something I have never tried before but I am so amazed at how realistic these machines are on this site and the effort that everyone, including those no longer with us have put into making this site one of the best if not the best. I am also a member on DADS FME too and I am also amazed at the background work that those guys put into creating new machines from scratch and re-creating those that we all love. There are also some new ones that I would like to have a go on that I have never seen before (Showing my age now i guess), as I only know the old retro style and themed fruit machines.
Thanks for the invaluable help with this. Can I just ask though, if I open the older layouts in MFME 5 or 6 depending on the layout, if I want to then use that layout in MFME20, do I just click file save as so that I can get it into a .fml layout ?
Yep that's exactly how its done. There might be some minor tweaks needed in configuration to make them compatible. Quite often its Hopper Settings which need adjusting by unchecking the 'hoppers' tick boxes.
Okay - moving this to cabinet building - short version got it running pretty well. Can play Pinball and Fruit Machines via a single interface. Lots of tweaking to do but works to my satisfaction. Now to get Adders and Ladders running.
Would love to get a little more detail on what it took to get things working good. Signed up on this site a year ago, but dug deeper into my virtual pinball cabinet build and haven't really kept up on the fruit machine part. I too want to integrate into virtue pinball cabinet.... and think it is time to start digging back into this.
Sure there are more elegant solutions but In the end I found a Window Closer program which scans for the notes window to pop up and then closes it automatically after a second. (Please let me know MOD's if this is not okay to mention). Works well.
@Tolax i have a vpin running pin up popper and im interested in adding MFME to it. Do you have to rotate the screen when using MFME? I use joy to key i was wondering if its easy to switch to a different profile and have 1 profile for my vpin and 1 for MFME? A copy of your script for the window closer would be much appreciated please if allowed.
I'm back home later in the week so I can grab/publish the script - can also post my machine screen images as well if needed. Mine is a curated list of my favorite fruit machines so it is by no means complete.
I am running the Windows Closer app at launch. The purpose of this is to close the notes file that appears when you launch certain fruit machines. Reason I did this is PinUpPopper and MFME both use the escape key. Press the escape key to acknowledge the note and pinup popper auto closes MFME. This was the nicest (easiest) solution/hack I found to not having to use a mouse. To configure it I ran multiple machines in MFME - when a notes window pops up you refresh the Closer app - select the window you want to close (TLayoutNotes) and add it to the list.
If you use pinup popper you can scroll through the fruit machine lists and it shows an image of each one. If you do this remember you have to rotate all the images as the screen is running at 270 degrees when pinup popper front end is running.
@TolaxI tried your explanation of getting MFME work with Pinup Popper, but the game doesn't start. I did all that you did in emulator setup etc. But it doesn't work. Are you sure that the codes you have typed are correct?
In general what you should see is that you launch your fruit machine, The screen rotates (the blue pinup popper bar will now be on the top right hand side of the display). Then the fruit machine should appear.
Sounds good - same as mine. I am assuming when you go to the pinup pooper setup and add games it is listing all the fruits that you have as .gam files? (this would show that you have your folder settings correct)
Everything works fine now. Thanks for the help. Only problem that i have is when i quit a game it doesn't save the state it's in. I mean, when i have let's say 214 credits and i quit. The next time when i start the same game up i have zero credits. So i quit with esc key and then quit the game so it will save the last game.
Can I ask, how you found about Fruit Machine Emulation (FME). The scene is quite small, but still reasonably lively, so we still definitely need new blood, even if it's just to take part in forum posts.
Another way, to hide the sideart is to go into edit mode, then right click on the background not the actual machine and choose properties. This will bring up the background properties and you can select the height and width. This way is required sometimes, if the layout is a huge size and above your display's maximum resolution. i.e layouts with a 1200 height and your display is 1920*1080.
Thanks Wearecity. I found FME through a series of coincidences really. I've always loved fruit machines and I recently asked the Leader of the Opposition if I could buy another one (having owned one for a while about 8 years ago).
She agreed (in exchange for the promise of a new kitchen!?!?!) but, having built a MAME arcade machine last year I decided to try and look into the feasibility of making an emulated fruity that would accept real money credits and pay out in real money. After some research I found MPU Mecca and then Desert Island Fruits.
I then found out about MFME 5 and decided to look up my old fruity (Money Mad Martians) and found it on this site. I then registered as a Gold Supporter so I could download MFME 5.1 and Money Mad Martians.
Thanks for the info on changing the height etc. There's loads I need to learn (don't even know what "dx" stands for on some of the machines etc) but looking forward to diving in and learning what I can.
PS. I've attached a couple of photos of my arcade machine (starting it with the wood and the finished article). I put it in a shed/pub I built called "Shenanigans" hence the name. It runs Hyperspin frontend and various emulators including MAME for all the games / pinball etc :-)
Yep, I'm really looking forward to getting into the nitty gritty of MFME and how these machines are put together etc. I'm really impressed with some of the work that people have done on this site. Was playing Deal or No Deal earlier and it was awesome!
I really need to open every emulator I have for use with it, which probably amounts to around 70-100 and make sure they are configured correctly for graphics, sound and controller. I have several retro style usb controllers and well as PS4 and Xbox for PS1 & PS2 & emulation, so have suitable controllers for most, rather than just using a Xbox 360 controller as standard. I simply don't have the time or enthusiasm to do it though, maybe one day. I also tinkering with other frontends such as launchbox.
I know nothing about cabinets building, configuration or about getting real payouts etc, but there are several members around here who do have cabinets and building MFME keyboards including Spa and Reg, who could advise far better than me.
Good luck with the build uptown. I've toying with the idea of removing the glass from my old jpm Indy and sticking a monitor in its place to run mfme. So please keep us updated with the build as you do it. When I start mine I will take pictures to.
Just need to get the buttons working in conjunction with the emu then I will start.
I'll definitely be documenting the build. I do it with all my projects as it's great to look back on. I've seen Reg's post that shows a good layout for buttons and I've read that you can control a payout hopper etc so it's early stages but it is looking feasible.
As I say, I've got to finish my CNC project which will probably take me up to the end of July and then I'll probably start on this. In the meantime I'll be learning and getting some ROMs etc together.
