We were already looking forward to the summer release of Deadpool and Wolverine, which will bring together Ryan Reynolds' R-rated antihero with Hugh Jackman's iconic X-Man. We're even more eager to see the film after Marvel dropped the official trailer, which is chock-full of off-color witticisms, meta-references, slo-mo action, and a generous sprinkling of F-bombs. (But no cocaine! Wade promised Feige! "They know all the slang terms. They have a list.")
Ryan Reynolds found the perfect fit with 2016's Deadpool, starring as Wade Wilson, a former Canadian special forces operative (dishonorably discharged) who develops regenerative healing powers that heal his cancer but leave him permanently disfigured with scars all over his body. Wade decides to become a masked vigilante, turning down an invitation to join the X-Men and abandon his bad-boy ways. The first Deadpool was a big hit, racking up $782 million at the global box office, critical praise, and a couple of Golden Globe nominations for good measure. Deadpool 2 was released in 2018 and was just as successful.
Deadpool and Wolverine reunites many familiar faces from the first two films: Reynolds and Baccarin, obviously, but also Leslie Uggams as Blind Al; Karan Soni as Wade's personal chauffeur, taxi driver Dopinder; Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead; Stefan Kapičić as the voice of Colossus; Shioli Kutsuna as Negasonic's mutant girlfriend, Yukio; Randal Reeder as Buck; and Lewis Tan as X-Force member Shatterstar.
The teaser revealed that the TVA, first featured in Loki, will play a big role in Deadpool and Wolverine. We saw Wade celebrating his birthday with Vanessa and all their friends, only to then have a group of formidable TVA agents knock on his door. He was tossed through a portal and ended up at TVA headquarters, face to face with Paradox, who offered him a chance to be "a hero among heroes."
Marvel dropped a new teaser last night, focused on moody black-and-white footage from 2017's Logan, Jackman's last on-screen appearance as Wolverine. "Look, eventually you're gonna hang up the claws and it's gonna make a lot of people very sad," Reynolds said in a voiceover. "But one day your old pal Wade's gonna ask you to get back in the saddle again. And when he does, say yes."
The official trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine has been released, offering plenty of reveals about the film's highly anticipated story. As the sole Marvel movie releasing in 2024 - at least where Marvel Studios is concerned - Deadpool & Wolverine is generating a lot of excitement. The film's teaser trailer confirmed it as a bridge between 20th Century Fox's X-Men movies and Marvel Studios' MCU, centered around Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool teaming up with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine.
While the Deadpool & Wolverine teaser trailer featured several reveals in its own right, the official trailer takes the marketing up to another level. More about the upcoming MCU movie has been revealed, from connections to both aforementioned franchises to more information on the new variant of Wolverine. With Deadpool & Wolverine's release date currently set for July 26, 2024, the official trailer provides enough major story reveals to keep Marvel fans satisfied until the film hits theaters.
Despite his titular role, Jackman's Wolverine was largely absent from Deadpool & Wolverine's teaser trailer. However, the official trailer provides a much greater insight into Wolverine's story in the film, even opening with the character drinking at a bar in his universe. Wolverine is no stranger to such scenarios, often shown doing the same in various Fox X-Men movies. That said, one key difference is that he is not respected by those around him.
As he is sitting at the bar, the bartender can be heard telling him to leave. He states that Wolverine is not welcome in the bar or anywhere, for that matter, which makes it sound more like a personal issue than something trivial like Logan being too drunk. Wolverine then uncharacteristically pleas for one last drink in exchange for his absence, hinting at a much deeper lack of respect between Wolverine and the people of his universe.
After Wolverine's introduction in the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, the other titular character arrives to recruit him. Wolverine shows a hesitancy to join Wade, before the official trailer cuts to the two squaring off in a familiar MCU location. Wolverine and Deadpool begin fighting in the Void, the pit of pruned elements, locations, and people shown in Loki seasons 1 and 2.
As was evident by the teaser trailer and the set photos released from Deadpool & Wolverine, this proves that the Void will play an integral role in the film's plot. That said, it is not clear how much time passes between the two scenes, as the Void confrontation shows Wolverine's new, albeit classic, suit in all its glory. The yellow and blue of Wolverine's costume is shown in action in Deadpool & Wolverine's trailer as the two mutants battle in a variety of violent ways.
The teaser trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine was light on story content aside from Wade's induction into the TVA. The official trailer for the film rectifies this, providing some big reveals about the driving force of the story. As mentioned by Wade after his and Wolverine's fight in the trailer, the former needs the latter's help to save his universe. While it is unclear how Wade's universe is in danger, he seeks out Wolverine for aid as he is aware of the heroic qualities of Wolverine from the X-Men franchise.
This story certainly tracks with the other installments in the Deadpool franchise. While it has been presented in a meta way, it is clear that Deadpool is aware of Logan's heroics. As such, it would make sense for the character to seek out a variant of Wolverine to help him save a universe, as the character is used to doing it across the multiverse.
More than two months after the first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine confirmed the long-awaited team-up of fans' dreams, the world is getting another look at the upcoming action-packed, R-rated superhero epic.
In the official trailer, released on Monday, fans see Deadpool and Wolverine trade cheeky barbs before Wade recruits the down-on-his-luck Logan and encourages him to get back into fighting shape, culminating in an action montage set to Madonna's "Like a Prayer."
On Sunday, one day before the trailer dropped, Reynolds took to Instagram to get fans hyped with a mini-teaser, that featured Deadpool speaking to Wolverine in voice-over, set to swelling, inspiring music, and largely featuring footage from past Wolverine films.
"Look, eventually, you're going to hang up the claws and it's going to make a lot of people very sad," Deadpool said in the teaser, slyly referring to Jackman's previously announced decision to retire from playing the character after Logan. "But one day, your old pal, Wade's, gonna ask you to get back in the saddle again, and when he does, say yes."
The teaser largely featured footage from 2009's much-maligned X-Men Origins: Wolverine, as well as 2015's The Wolverine and the Oscar-nominated 2017 film Logan -- which seemingly showcased the range in critical reception Jackman's outings as the claw-popping fast-healing mutant have been.
Back in February, during Super Bowl LVIII, Marvel released the first look at the highly anticipated third installment in the Deadpool franchise -- which is the first since the character was acquired from Fox by Disney.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer shows Deadpool/Wade Wilson and his signature meta-humor, calling out the jump from Fox to Disney in a fourth-wall-breaking moment as he is abducted by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) -- a Marvel organization first introduced in the Disney+ Loki series.
The first trailer did not show Jackman's face in his return as Wolverine. Instead, it teased his appearance in various shadowed glimpses, leading to countless fan theories and YouTube videos analyzing the trailer frame-by-frame.
In addition to its F-bombs, other R-rated elements in the official Deadpool & Wolverine trailer include some not-so-subtle sexual references, bloody mayhem and talk of cocaine between Wilson and his close friend Blind Al (Leslie Uggams).
Hugh Jackman has gone through quite the evolution across his decades-long tenure as Wolverine, a journey that seemingly ended with him hanging up his adamantium claws in 2017's Oscar-nominated Logan. Now, he's back for one more final act as Marvel's surliest mutant in Deadpool & Wolverine, an outing which marks both superhero headliners' entrees into the official MCU.
"Found the guy who killed Bambi's mom," Ryan Reynolds wrote alongside the movie's trailer. In it, his Merc with a Mouth recruits Jackman's Wolverine to help save the world. (Notably, Jackman is seemingly playing a multiversal variant of Wolverine here, and not the Wolverine who died in Logan.) Together, they venture into The Void at the end of time for cameos and F-bombs galore. Matthew Macfadyen co-stars as TVA agent Mr. Paradox, with Emma Corrin as the villainous Cassandra Nova.
The Deadpool and Wolverine teaser that debuted during the Super Bowl in February gave us a long-awaited glimpse of some footage from the Merc With a Mouth's (Ryan Reynolds) MCU debut, but it was clearly holding a lot of things back, including a first proper look at Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in action.
The full trailer is sure to give us a much better idea of what to expect from the threequel while also spotlighting at least a couple more big reveals, and we may now know when our next look at the movie will be released.
Though we don't have an exact date, Trailer Track believes the second Deadpool and Wolverine trailer will be with us in early May, in time to screen in front of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes when it hits theaters later that month.
Rumors relating to the movie's plot continue to run rampant, and we have a new one from Daniel Richtman which may shed some more light on this "new Multiverse concept" we've been hearing about.
