Hi Guys,

I don't know if you received the email from Denis too...

A great information about the brand new version 3 !!!!
I was very excited until I discover I have to pay the program
again !!!!!

I bought it on May 25 and I have to pay it again for... an update ;o(
Not a friendly behave.

Getting money from customer who already paid don't look fair to me.
The new version isn't SO different...

I bought many other software (Reget Deluxe, Tag&Rename....) that don't
ask customer to pay again AND again AND again (even if their software
are more complicated)

I sent an email and would like the company to take position on this
(and I want the reply to be public because we are all concerned)!

What do you think about ?

Cheers,

Mauro

I paid for 3.0 the next day I knew it was released, I have bought
several software applications most of them you only have to pay once
and have free upgrades or paid some extra for a new IMPROVED version
or some others you pay for them every year, sadly 3.0 version does
not have that IMPROVEMENT to justify the extra cost, in fact in my
case 3.0 has this annoying bug with subfolders, However I don't regret
the extra payment for 3.0 and I also have less than a year since I
bought Vista Start Menu Pro, What I really dislike is the fact that
there is a 3.01 version that has the subfolder bug apparently fixed
but is the freeware version, I believe that its us, the people that
have bought the software the ones that should be receiving a mail
saying theres a new pro version out, I may be doing it wrong, but when
I check for updates I have no way downloading the pro version, anyway,
lets hope the next (paid) update will have more features that will
make it worth the money than 3.0 was from 2.9.

Sorry Dennis, I like the software, but parting out $30.00 NZ just for
an update on a menu is just a bit too rich for me. So I'll be sticking
with 2.9 for now.
Thanks for your efforts though :)

You know the "new" Russians,
They're only interest is MONEY.

That really wasn't very fair. Just because some people don't agree
with something, nationality shouldn't be brought into it.

wow sandradub, that is just harsh and really uncalled for.
Have emailed Dennis in the past, he is a decent and polite person.
There is no need for unpleasantries.

Same here. Any dealings I have had with Dennis have always been
cordial and helpful. Granted, I haven't always been on my best
behavior but Dennis has always kept himself composed and level-headed,
no matter what was thrown at him. For that, I envy him.

I agree that is crossing the line! Dennis is a stand up guy. Every
time I needed a problem solved, he was there to answer my (sometimes)
dumb questions. By the way, I would not own a computer with out
having this software on it.

I have to agree with the above statements,
Any time I have contacted Dennis, he has always replied, very calmly
and in plain language.
Having had problems with V3, he very quickly came out with an update.
With that kind of sevice, I do not begrudge the small fee for an
upgrade, even if some users think thay were minor upgrades.

Keep up the good work Dennis.

Regards.

I won't say I necessarily agree with the price of upgrades, or that
the new version warranted an upgrade price. But I don't agree with
publicly bashing someone just because they do something you don't
like. And being Russian has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

I, too, am annoyed at being asked to pay for an upgrade so shortly
after I initially registered. But it has nothing to do with
nationality, so let's leave that out of this discussion.

I would just like Dennis to explain why, when so many other shareware
vendors have either one year or lifetime free upgrades, people who
have been using Vista Start Menu for such a short time are being told
"no more upgrades until you pay again."

Yes that is my disappointment in the way it is handled. Do the honest
thing and support shareware authors, and then after 5 months usage
asked to pay again.

Hi Everyone,

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I provide free minor updates.
The update is not necessary you may continue use 2.x version.

Link to the 2.92 PRO -
http://www.VistaStartMenu.com/VistaStartMenu_Setup_Pro_en.exe

More extended answer if following:
1. The registration was developed for Version based updates like in
Microsoft.
1.a. Old registration scheme don't use time-date so I can't track with
your code when you purchase the program. I can do this only himself
by looking in your orders.
1.b. It's difficult to support when everyone has own update date.

2. Who purchase program in 2006 blame me that I don't give program
for free for old users but who buy it in 2008 blame me that I don't
give the free one year updates.

2.a. I try to create 2.92 as stabile and compatible program so it
should work few years even with new OS.
2.b You don't blame the Ford when it release new version of your car?

3. The update politics is not a secret you may read about updates in
registration letter -
It is planned that this key file and link will work with all 2.XX
versions of
Vista Start Menu.

from licence -
"2.1 All major updates for PRO version requiring payment."

OK. I understand the problem and I will try to improve License
politics(create it time based) for my other new project Tidy
Favorites. I will announce it here in few hours.

Thank you and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Maybe is the upgrade pices wasn't so high it would help, Dennis. Most
companies only charge half of the orginal price or less for upgrading
from previous major versions.

Needless to say, VSM is still great software and compliments my system
totally. So at the end of the day the upgrade price was worth it to
me. V3 does seen to be a bit more responsive and faster as well.

Cheers Dennis.

If you can afford it, that's great. Not all of us can.
