Greg Kreis is legendary as the premier instructor when it comes to training
VistA developers and support personnel for VA. He has taught most if not all
of the VA developers and I have never once heard anything but glowing reports
about his courses.

For the first time we have been able to sync his calendar and ours and he will
offer his VistA Foundations course compressed into three days, January 15-17,
right before VistA Community Meeting. It will be held at the Marriott Hotel
right across the street from the UC Davis Medical Education building where the
VistA Community Meeting will be held January 18-20, 2013.

Topics covered include:

VistA Architecture
MUMPS Environment
Programmer Conventions
File Manager
Task Manager
Device Manager
Menu Manager
Security Manager
Programmer Tools
RPC Broker
Health Level 7
KIDS (software distribution)
Patching
Diagnosing Problems

Students will have opportunities to explore the infrastructure modules and to
view VistA programs that use them through hands-on interaction with a VistA
system.

There is a catch, however. We need to schedule at least 10 people to take the
course before he can offer it and we have to have them signed up by December
14.

So, if you take a look at the web site and want to take the course, contact me
and as soon as we hit 10, we will open up the registration site and get you
registered. We don't want to pay all of those credit card fees, etc., if we
don't hit the required number.

Just send an email to nancy at WorldVistA dot org or the email I use to post
to Hardhats. The fee for the course is $850.00. There are hotel rooms
available locally for $89 at the Hotel Med Park and I am hoping the Marriott
will match that.

So far we have 7 of the 10 we need and maybe an 8th. Please let me know if
you are planning to attend so Greg can plan and I can finalize the
arrangements for the room.

I have moved the training to the Hotel Med Park which is about two short
blocks from the where the conference will be instead of one because there is a
continental breakfast and we can have it catered for the same price as the
Marriott would have for just a room. Information about the hotel is at this
link.

Registration is now open for Greg's class but now we need to actually get at
least 10 people signed on the dotted line. It will NOT be held at the
Marriott but will be held at the Hotel Med Park which has rooms at the same
price as the Marriott and a continental breakfast. Last time we were there it
was a Best Western but it was sold and improved and is now the Hotel Med Park.
We hope you will all be staying on for the VistA Community Meeting.

Of the 10 people who said they would sign up for the class, only 4 have
registered so far. If there are not 10 registered by December 14, the class
will be canceled. Please register at the link below if you intend to take the
class

Those who registered can rest easy now, the course is ON! I am delighted and
hope this is the first of many to be given before or after each of the VistA
Community Meetings. :-)

Excellent work, Nancy.

None should doubt that this would <not> have happened without your sustained efforts.

No need to be a US citizen. We already have at least two folks signed up who
are not US citizens.

There is an EWD course and a GT.M course, the latter of which probably will
not reach the required number to be offered as it was offered fairly recently
at the VistA Expo meeting. I will forward you the information about both
courses that was posted on Hardhats shortly.

The $89 Hotel room rates will be expiring on 12/31/2012 so if you plan to
reserve a room, please do so right away. I found that some that were with the
VistA Community Meeting were not listed as being with the VistA Community
Meeting at Hotel Med Park so you might want to confirm your rate with them if
you registered there although I think they will correct it on arrival at the
hotel if it is not right. If you were not able to get the lower rate at the
Marriott when you tried to book, please contact me so I can get it corrected
for you.

The information about the hotels is on this page:

http://worldvista.org/Conferences/26th_VistA_Community_Meeting

I am looking forward to seeing you in Sacramento!
