Hi everyone,

Last week we released VisPy 0.6.5. This was a very small release with only code style changes and some small refactoring in the automated testing. The main purpose of this release was to create Python 3.8 wheels since some users were having installation issues. This release also includes some changes to the source distribution so we shouldn't have these installation issues with Python 3.9 or other future versions of Python (I hope). I'm still working on nailing down all of the pull requests for VisPy 0.7 and hope to have that out soon.

As you may have seen on Twitter and in other announcements, the VisPy project was awarded a grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI)! The main purpose
of this grant is to rebuild the VisPy community by creating more documentation, guides, a code of conduct, tutorial videos, hosting a live VisPy lesson, and more. It also includes 15% of my time as well as some funding for an outside contributor or maintainer. So if you want to use VisPy more, if you want to help out with maintenance, or you want to try VisPy in one of your own projects but just haven't found the time or resources, let me know. This project has historically had difficulty finding long term contributors and I hope to help with that through the resources provided by this grant. While we will accept contributions from anyone, we especially value ideas and contributions from folks with diverse backgrounds and identities. If you are interested in receiving some of this funding please contact me either on this public mailing list, an issue on the vispy github, or private message me on twitter (@djhoese) or gitter.im (https://gitter.im/djhoese) and provide a overview of the work you'd like to do.

More releases and announcements to follow. Thanks everyone.

Dave
