dmg is the software package format for Mac. This platform specific visone
build was around for some time. It provides convenience features like an
installing routine consistent to other Mac software. The 'all OS' build has
to be installed / started manually but otherwise is the same.

Java 1.9 changed how things start a bit. Linux and Windows did cope very
well, Mac complained. Not surprising since for Mac we had this special
snowflake in place.
Take away from last years thread [1] was install Java 8 and everything
installs and runs fine. On Java 9 (and up, I guess) the installer crashes but
starting the jar via terminal works.
It is really just convenience (and Linux/Windows people seem to do fine
without special treatment). I am tempted to drop the dmg build in the next
release and maybe provide a short tutorial on how to install and provide some
system integration.
In any case, head over to the old thread [1] and see if the details match. If
not please report the Mac OS and Java version together with any 'show details'
listings and terminal output of `java -jar visone*.jar`.
