Subject: THE DANUBIA FILES and Vis AWARD WRITING COMPETITIONDear Vis MootTeams and CoachesThis message contains two announcements of interest to you.First, while you were in Hong Kong and / or Vienna, you probably saw the book, or at least the flyer advertising it. THE DANUBIA FILES: Lessons in Award Writing from the Vis Moot, has been praised by experts and has sold out of its first printing. More copies will soon be available, either through the Vis East Moot Foundation website: www.cisgmoot.org with Paypal, or via traditional sellers like Amazon. Current paid orders are being shipped from Hong Kong during the month of April. We strongly encourage you to get your own copy, both for its educational value and as a souvenir of the Vis. Please also ask your school library to order hard copies for future Mooties to consult. The book has been priced to encourage as many students and academics as possible to buy it. Just US$39.95 for a law book is pretty reasonable! The more durable hard cover (ideal as a souvenir or for school libraries) is just US$59.95.Remember, all profits from the sale of THE DANUBIA FILES go to support Moot Phase Two: The Bergsten Project. Named to honour Professor Eric Bergsten on his retirement, Phase Two is a way for Moot participants and coaches to bring arbitration expertise to countries which, less fortunate than ours, do not have adequate arbitration resources for competing or for conducting arbitrations in the business world. Your purchase benefits both you, and other students that may get to enjoy the experience of the Moot because of your contribution. This brings me to my second point – an opportunity to prolong your own experience and contribution to the Moot.
The DANUBIA FILES does not contain an award for Vis Moot XX (Vis East X), because this year’s Problem was released when THE DANUBIA FILES was nearly completely written. To fill this gap, the co-editors of THE DANUBIA FILES are planning a second publication. We are sponsoring an AWARD WRITING COMPETITION, open to any student from a team that participated in this year’s Moot. After all, who better than you can appreciate and evaluate the arguments being made on both sides? Your entire team, or any of its member(s), may take part in the competition. Please see the attached Rules and send us your entry!Very best wishes to all of you in completing your studies and in your careers. Do stay in touch through the MAA and the Vis East website. We hope to hear from many of you, either to order THE DANUBIA FILES or to submit your contribution to the production of THE DANUBIA FILES TWO. Good luck!SincerelyLouise Barrington,Director of Vis East Moot Foundation Ltd and co-editor of THE DANUBIA FILES
