To: India's National Campaign for People’s Right to Information.

We have received the notice of the murder of the the Honorable Satish Shetty.  We are in mourning for his loss to the people of India and to his family and to those who work for open government everywhere.

We will be notifying the different individuals and groups that know of the importance of the open records work that he was doing and we will see if we can conduct some activities here in the U.S. to show our dismay that this could occur in a sister democracy and to encourage the law enforcement there to act properly and thoroughly in its investigation and prosecution.

Please keep us posted on the progress of the investigation and how well the local and national press are covering the murder of the Honorable Satish Shetty.

One thing that might help, and it is something that we have considered for corrupt jurisdictions in the United States, is to first determine if public records requests are allowed by email or surface mail from a different jurisdiction.  If they are, then we could continue his requests with the protection of distance and the real promise to those who use force and deceit that the work of the Honorable Satish Shetty will continue, and may even grow more intense than it was prior to his murder.

Please remember that the organization of Investigative Reporters and Editors (www.ire.org) was formed after the killing of a radio broadcaster here years ago.  I am copying them with this email to let them know of the situation in India.
