Tim,

Very glad to hear that you have been using JavaFX Script for teaching.
I think it is a great language, and much easier than Java to learn.

Visage will be the successor to JavaFX Script / F3. There is no active
development on the former Oracle compiler project, and I have the
support from key folks who have taken the language forward up to this
point, including Brian Goetz.

The syntax will be very close to JavaFX Script. Right now we are
looking at a couple backwards-compatible additions to the language such
as Maps and default properties. If we need to make language changes
that break compatibility with old code we will be sure to highlight this
on the mailing list and in the release notes.

The project is open-source (GPLv2 to be precise), so you don't have to
worry about commercial interests interfering.

I am planning to set up a donation link on the website. Proceeds will
be used for project expenses like hosting, travel, advertising, etc.

I have added you as a project contributor on the site, so welcome to the
team! Even if you are not coding, providing good documentation will be
tremendously helpful.

Cheers,
--Steve
