sure. Basically you can run any kind of OS on the Virtual Platform. Of
course it is easist for OSs that have been already ported to the ARM
Realview baseboard. It is because the VP is compatible with it.
Meaning, any binary image for the Realview baseboard for ARM9 will run
unmodified on the VP (few exceptions as a few part are missing in the
VP in the cloud such as audio).
Everybody is of course welcome to run his own software on the VP.
Linux is just one example we provide. I have been doing some work on
Symbian, but it is just more effort to just get it to build as you
need a lot of packages and tools. Any volunteers are very welcome.
Internally in CoWare we are also running other OSs (Mainly RTOS) on
this platform.
Also, the tools can adapt to your specific OS. Thus, the OS Analysis
Kit can be easily ported to become Your-Os-Aware. It is just a set of
APIs that need to be implemented that tell the analysis when a process
starts ends etc. For Linux it is maybe the most complex as it
separates user and kernel space. In case of an RTOS it is much
simpler.
Again, you are really invited to run your own software. You can use
ftp to upload it. If you need more time than the current 2h demo
limitation etc., please let me know and we can arrange something.
I would be happy to see people experiencing their software performing
on the VP and I am eager to hear their feedback.
Best regards,
Achim
