Hi, my name is Leonardo Darré, I am scientific researcher working for a machine learning company in Uruguay, and I would like to participate in the biohackathon to aid in the covid19 crisis. May I ask you to grant me access to the biohackathon slack workspace, in particular to the #machinelearning and #biostatistics channels. I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks a lot in advance
Best wishes

Leonardo

Hi Leonardo,
Looks like you already joined the slack workspace. Welcome!

Everyone,
Announcement again, this is the invitation link to the slack workspace. There're 14 channels already, so you can find the one for your topic of interest, or you can create another and announce it on #general.

Best,
Tazro

Hi, Dear all,
I am Fatma (again),
I hope everyone is safe and healthy,

I am one of the members of ISCB-RSG-Student Council Turkey. We are worried for amid Coronovirus pandemic and we want to be part of a solution (if there is any or any improvement...). We are planning to join this hackathon with 50 more people coming from different backgrounds, but mainly dominated by molecular biologist&geneticists and computational biologists&bioinformaticians. Although ~50% of the people in this group are graduate students, we have undergrads and doctors as well. We have 5 groups so far (Some of them are planning to join the groups you shared before in the github page. So, if you are looking for sub-groups, please let us know.). We are planing to arrange the grouping done until Monday. I hope this is a convenient way of joining this hackathon. I would like you to know before adding 50 more people into the slack group on Monday. If there is anything we can help, please let us know!

Many thanks,
Best regards,

Dear Fatma,

As there are a lot of people joining this BioHackathon, we are trying a bottom-up approach. We aim to have group leaders/facilitators by next week. Depending on how big a group /topic is, the leader/facilitator could suggest and agree with participants to split into smaller groups. Some topics/groups have been already created, some more could still be proposed. Please check both slack and github repo

Commonly, for the same topic there are multiple projects. This time however, it could be that one big project with multiple modules is defined, in order to maximize impact. That said, side projects are always possible, and even if not everybody is working on the same project, the idea is that everybody can benefit from the experience and expertise of others working on the overall topic. Does it make sense?

You mention 50 people, as we have the full slack version there should be no problem. I do not think we have any other such a large group coming from the same institute. Do you maybe have or want to propose a project/topic targetting the pandemic in Turkey? It not, then I would suggest for each of the participants willing to join, to have a look around and see where they would like to contribute.

Regards,
