Get ready, Ed. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell just took this race to the next level.
Senator McConnell recently gave the maximum amount allowable to one of Jeff’s opponents. And it’s not just the money that matters. Senator McConnell is trying to send a message: “We want to bring down Jeff Merkley, and we think we can do it.”
It’s just the latest example of national Republicans sending signals to their big money donors, begging them to dump piles of outside money into the state. We sent you the recent AP headline about Republicans making a “bold play” for Oregon, and Karl Rove has already said publicly that Oregon is on his list of states to win back for the far-right Republicans.
Senator McConnell is the poster-child for right-wing obstruction. He’s led countless efforts to turn back progress on our issues and is among the biggest abusers of filibuster rules, keeping important items off the Senate agenda time and time again.
