4.) Sea Grant Fellowship Opportunities
   ++ Population and Ecosystem Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics Fellowship – Application Deadline: January 25, 2023 (5pm); Starts: August 1, 2023 – This PhD fellowship will support a student studying (1) population and ecosystem dynamics (PED) and (2) marine resource economics (MRE). Supported by Sea Grant and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).

Seeking Water Quality Data for Virginia’s 2024 Water Quality Assessment Integrated Report (IR) – Data Due: March 6, 2023 -- The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is requesting data in preparation of the 2024 Water Quality Assessment Integrated Report (IR). Seeking water quality data collected in Virginia between January 1, 2017- December 31, 2022. Use the Virginia Data Explorer (VDE) to submit water quality data. Nominations Accepted: State Surface Waters for Inclusion in DEQ’s Annual Water Quality Monitoring Plan – Due: April 30, 2023 -- Any person may request specific surface waters of the state be included in the Department of Environmental Quality’s (DEQ's) annual water quality monitoring plan. Private ponds, privately owned lakes and any other body of water not deemed to be State Waters are ineligible. Requests must include, at a minimum (i) a geographical description of the water body recommended for monitoring; (ii) the reason the monitoring is requested, and (iii) any water quality data that the petitioner may have collected or compiled. DEQ will respond in writing on its approval or denial of each nomination. Busch Award – Due: June 1, 2023 -- Recognizes an individual for innovative research in the field of water quality and the water environment, with a special focus on those who show promise and make significant contributions in bridging research and its practical application. Recipients of the award are presented with a grant of $100,000 to continue their work, take risks, and explore new directions. Individuals from all segments of the water quality community are encouraged to submit nominations. Individuals may self-nominate or have their work submitted by a nominator.
