Webinar: Toxins Associated with Fresh Water Harmful Algal Blooms and Their Mammalian Health Effects – February 1, 2023 (11am-12pm) – This webinar will feature Donna Hill with the Office of Research and Development at the US EPA. Hill will provide an overview of health effects seen in humans and animals from freshwater cyanotoxin blooms and discuss completed and planned research within their lab. Webinar: Submitting Volunteer and Non-agency Water Quality Monitoring Data to DEQ – February 7, 2023 (5:30-7pm) – The Virginia DEQ released the Virginia Data Explorer (VDE), a platform for submitting water quality data collected by volunteers and monitoring groups for consideration in the 2024 Water Quality Assessment Integrated Report. EPA Grant: Wells Used for Geologic Sequestration of Carbon Dioxide Submission Deadline: March 20, 2023 – Class VI wells are used to inject carbon dioxide (CO2) into deep rock formations for long-term underground storage. The EPA announced a $50 million grant to assist states, tribes, and territories in developing and implementing Underground Injection Control (UIC) Class VI programs. All applicants must demonstrate how environmental justice and equity considerations will be incorporated into their Class VI UIC programs.
