7.) 2021 Drinking Water Clinics -- Anyone with a private water supply system (including wells, springs, and cisterns) may participate. Participation is voluntary. Information is shared with homeowners but otherwise kept confidential. To learn more about the clinics, see https://www.wellwater.bse.vt.edu/vahwqp.php. Drinking water clinics are organized by local Extension Agents and Virginia Tech faculty in the Biological Systems Engineering Department. Contact your local Extension office to express interest in a clinic. EPA PFAS Technical Support and Scientific Advancements Webinar – August 18, 2021 (3-4pm) -- This free webinar will share examples of EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD) projects conducted in collaboration with states and tribes to identify and improve the understanding of what PFAS are present within various media in local areas of concern. Projects range from environmental sampling around manufacturing facilities to evaluation of the effectiveness of well and wastewater treatment. Request for Applications (RFA): Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) 2021-2022 Citizen Monitoring Grants – Application Deadline: September, 17, 2021 (5pm) -- Grant funds can be used to purchase equipment, pay for lab analyses, and train and educate citizens. This year’s RFA includes an application question to prioritize environmental justice, instructions for using DEQ’s new Electronic Data Mapper, and new guidelines for submitting data to DEQ. FY 2022 Grant Opportunity for Marine Debris Removal Projects – Submission Deadline: September 24, 2021 – Awarded projects will create long-term, quantifiable ecological habitat improvements, with priority consideration for efforts targeting derelict fishing gear, abandoned and derelict vessels, and other medium- and large-scale debris. Projects should also foster public awareness of the effects of marine debris.
