subject: in regards to current law and economic hardship:

Congressman Boucher,

I am writing you this message in hopes of gaining support for a good
cause.

I speak of the legalization and taxation Cannabis for responsible
adults and for Industrial Hemp. Both forms of Cannabis, if taxed,
could stimulate our economy.

Industrial Hemp has many practical uses as alternative fuel(it's
easier and more sustainable than corn) food, clothing, paper, and many
other useful things. Industrial Hemp helped us win World War II and
then it was abandoned thanks to a fear campaign against Marijuana.

As for Marijuana, It's time to stop arresting responsible cannabis
consumers. 872,000 people each year are arrested on Marijuana
charges, that is far to many for a plant that can be attributed to no
deaths, other than crime related ones.

The responsible use of cannabis by adults should not be a crime, and
the adults should not be considered criminals. Many like me, are tax
payers, loving parents, and hard working Americans. We do not like
the drug cartels and know, much like the thugs profiting from alcohol
prohibition, legalizing cannabis would bankrupt the real criminals and
would provide a renewable source of taxable income in every single
state in this great country. Virginia which was born on tobacco,
could provide fertile ground for a plant that been shown to help
cancer patients, instead of just creating them. The studies show
marijuana to be beneficial for many medical uses, and show little or
no side effects. Defiantly less than alcohol, tobacco, and even
aspirin. The thing most wrong with marijuana, and the only cause of
death, is it's illegality.

Join those who pushed legalization of marijuana up to being the top
issue in Obama's Citizen's Briefing Book. The people have spoken.
It's time we consider new ideas. Even if legalization is too far
fetched, consider changing the current laws, so that innocent people
are no longer hurt. That is what the law is for. To protect the hard
working tax payer.

Thank you for your time, and I hope you show this issue some
consideration.

Now for his response. it's obviously he doesn't want to lose a vote,
by forming an open opinion. But i will have more people write him.
and i will ask for a opinion on the subject in future letters.

I got a letter from John Warner yesterday which is nearly word for
word what you got from Boucher. I thought the same thing, taking a
very non-committal stance. What they call straddling the fence. At
least it’s not the "unalterably opposed" position which is what I got
from Randy Forbes.

i'm sure there is a letter saved on every politicians computer, that
they can just fill in the blanks to send out when a voter sends in an
idea. and then there's Randy Forbes. It's funny, because atleast he
took the time to write his letter, just not the time to study the
facts.

I sent Boucher another letter asking directly for his opinions on the
subject. I will be moving soon though and Phil Roe will be my
representative. I will focus my letter writing on him. Once I move
and get back from a trip I am taking, I will take part in the 10
letters project. Its nice to be living on a state line. I can work on
two congressmen at once.
