This discussion thread is the place to post the replies we recieve
from delegates after we contact them concerning marijuana issues
(medical, decriminalization, legalization)

Here is what my Congressman Gerald Connolly had to say on the topic...

Dear Mr. Matthys,

Thank you for contacting me about the regulation of marijuana. I
appreciate the opportunity to hear from you on this issue.

I have seen firsthand the damage that illicit drug use has on
individuals, communities, and especially our youth and do not support
the legalization of marijuana. I spent ten years on the U.S. Senate
Foreign Relations Committee and worked closely with the International
Narcotics Control Bureau, traveling to dozens of countries, seeing
firsthand the ravages of drug use and production. Based on that
experience, I do not believe that outright legalization of marijuana
would create a positive outcome.

Once again, thank you for expressing your concern on this very
important issue. I appreciate hearing from you. For more information
on my views on other issues, please feel free to visit my website at

I'm working on a letter to send legislators challenging the old song
and dance routine. I think their experience is very limited based on
their tendency to repeat propagandist rhetoric. I don’t care where
they have been, what position in government they held or what
committee they were on. Like Congressman Cohen told the FBI Director,
Mr. Mueller, the gateway theory isn’t going to work.

I recently contacted Gerry Connolly about the new bill introduced by
Barney Frank, and all I ercieved was the same exact letter as before,
talking about the dangers of substance abuse. It's time to schedule a
meeting with him....

I'm waiting for a letter from Boucher, now that i've asked his
feelings on the matter instead of just sharing my own. It's been
almost a week. I will be quite disappointed if he does not reply. I
have moved to the other side of town and will have a new congressman
once i register to vote. Hopefully i can get some form of response
from him. I will however use the 10 letters approach to make sure
that others around me send Boucher and Phil Roe pro-legalization
letters and eventually i hope to see a response.
