Challenging DV laws

As noted below attorney 'Isi Mataele is looking for a case, or cases he can use to challenge domestic violence laws in federal court. I am given to understand that for the perfect case the best candidate would be someone who is employed, has no prior criminal record, being a Veteran wouldn¹t hurt, and who sought emergency shelter assistance for himself (and children if possible) and was denied services.

If you fit most of these criteria, or know someone who does, please contact him directly.

Dr. Corry,

I have been following you on your DV restraining orders and child custody issues. I actually want to bring a federal challenge to California's DV laws. I need a plaintiff that has a really good case to challenge the law.  A plaintiff that case exposes all the flaws of the system. If you come across one the let me know.

Thanks,

'Isi Mataele

Getting the word out

The problems with abused men don't exist unless and until they are documented. ABC's TV program 20/20 is trying to help and looking for abused men who are willing to tell their story publicly. I've talked with Sean Dooley and, if he can find the right stories, could be a big help in making the public and legislators aware of the immense damage current domestic violence laws are doing.

I would suggest contacting Dooley first by email with a brief summary of your case.

Subject: Re: Battered Men - ABC News 20/20

Hello Dr. Corry

I am a producer at ABC News 20/20 and we are researching a story on heterosexual men who experience domestic violence.  This is clearly an issue often overlooked by the media but one we know can have equally devastating consequences for relationships and families.  Generally speaking I think it¹s fair to say that many people don¹t even realize battered men exist which is why we hope an in-depth report can shed light on this misunderstood experience.  Ultimately we are looking for a few brave individuals willing to come forward and discuss their experience.  I am reaching out to you in the hopes that your expertise in this area might lead us to programs dealing with battered men and individuals willing to open up.  Is there a time I could give you a call to discuss this further?

Many thanks,

Sean Dooley
