Dear USA Boxing Membership:

President Harold Adonis, the USA Boxing Board of Directors and I are
excited to announce a new addition to our existing high performance
and coaching structure. World-renowned boxing coach and former elite
amateur boxer Freddie Roach has volunteered his time and extensive
knowledge to USA Boxing and our 2012 Olympic Team. With the full
support and endorsement of the USOC, Roach will serve as the Director
of Boxing Strategy and work closely with National Coach Joe Zanders
and our Olympic staff to assist in preparing our athletes for the 2012
Olympic Games.

It is important to note that Roach offered his services to improve the
United States’ showing at major international events, and has no
interest in recruiting our top amateurs. We believe that his knowledge
and experience will greatly augment our existing coaching structure
and high performance plan and are confident that his role with our
athletes will not extend into the professional ranks.

Roach had over 150 bouts during his own amateur career and contended
for a berth on the 1976 U.S. Olympic Team prior to his own
professional boxing career. His love for the sport of amateur boxing
and the Olympic movement continues to this day and led to his
volunteering his expertise to USA Boxing via the USOC’s CEO Scott
Blackmun. Roach made his full intentions clear to both the USOC and
USA Boxing and desires solely to assist our athletes and their
personal coaches in winning medals at the 2012 Olympic Games. The USOC
is providing the resources in connection with this program.

This additional Training Assistance Program with the USOC is a
testament that USA Boxing is making positive strides in the
reorganization of our sport. Our positive grown and forward motion in
the recent months ultimately allows USA Boxing this opportunity to be
awarded this tremendous program for the top male and female athletes
and personal coaches.

National Coach Joe Zanders and Roach look forward to working in
partnership with USA Boxing’s elite athletes and their personal
coaches to develop and implement an effective training regimen leading
in to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

National Coach Joe Zanders has stated we need more training camp
opportunities and has urged us to identify ways to integrate personal
coaches into our overall program. This Training Assistance Program
will enable us to accomplish Joe’s wish and this concept was also
heavily stressed in the 2011 High Performance Plan.

The primary purpose of the Training Assistance program is to further
enhance the quality of training that the top prospects receive in
their pursuit of Olympic excellence. It complements the programs that
are already in place within the high performance plan to ensure
consistent, high quality training and instruction for these top
prospects. In regard to the top prospects for the male athletes,
priority will be given to the boxers who qualify by name to the
Olympic Games at the 2011 AIBA World Championships. On the women’s
side, priority will be given to the boxers in the three identified
Olympic weight classes who have a proven track record of success in
international competition.

Roach has made a tremendous commitment to our program by confirming
his attendance at the High Performance Coaching retreat later this
month, the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, the pre-World Championships
training camp as well as numerous other training opportunities leading
into the 2012 Olympic Games.

This new initiative in partnership with the USOC is unprecedented, and
we believe it will provide an exciting new wrinkle in our existing
High Performance plan. We greatly appreciate Roach’s time, knowledge
and expertise and will continue to keep the membership updated on this
new and innovative initiative in the future.

Sincerely,

Harold Adonis Anthony Bartkowski
