Due to a change in the qualification process for the 2011 Pan
American Games, USA Boxing had to amend the previously announced
selection process for the Pan Am team.
At the time of the previous release of the selection procedures,
America’s Boxing Confederation, the governing body for the Pan
American region, had not disseminated a change to the qualification
process from past events. In December, USA Boxing learned that
athletes would qualify by name rather than the country for the 2011
Pan American Games.
Due to this change in the individual athlete qualification and the
time frame in which the Pan American qualifiers are taking place, USA
Boxing is unable to conduct a Pan Am Trials event for both male and
female boxers for the Pan American Games. USA Boxing is maintaining
the intent of the first set of USOC approved Pan American Games
selection procedures by sending the 2010 USA Boxing National Champions
to the Pan American qualifiers.
To further reiterate, USA Boxing has made this change to the athlete
selection procedures due to an unforeseen change by the America’s
Boxing Federation to their international qualifying procedures.
