Blank error boxes on starting Visual IRC

For some reason, whenever I start Visual IRC, it freezes on "Loading
Configuration" and pops up an error box with no text, only a red (X)
icon and a button with no text. The title bar is blank as well, except
for the Close button. When I click the button, another one appears. I
also hear the error noise when I press any key. Please tell me what's
wrong and how I can fix it. I've already tried deleting the registry
key.
