As you journey through the cities, you'll run across a wandering merchant that sells some rare and expensive garb under the name FORGE (aka Red Dragoon Outfitters). The problem is knowing when and where to find him since he can be in any part of any city at any time. To ID the merchant, he'll be wearing a red-colored hat (called the "Glam Hat") and a red & blue mask with blue jeans and a giant backpack.

The following list includes cards from pages 8, 9 and 10, which are the Guardian Force cards and the Player Cards. These 3 pages of cards collectively make up the high-level rare cards and each of these rare cards cannot be found through regular games against card players. If you missed any of these cards you can still manage to pick them up if you complete the CC-Group side quest prior to moving on to disc 4.

The MiniMog Card is the first rare card that you can easily get your hands on. The card can be won by challenging the jogger who runs circles through Balamb Garden. The jogger wears a green/blue mix of clothing and runs through each area of Balamb continuously. If you miss the jogger as he/she runs past just leave the screen and return and they will run past again.

Rare Game (レアモンスター狩り, Rea Monsutā Kari?) is a type of enemy in Final Fantasy XII. Rare Game are stronger versions of normal enemies, often larger with some sort of visual effect, such as an aura of mist. They do not spawn as regular enemies do, and require the player to fulfill certain conditions to make them appear, such as killing an amount of enemies in the area, waiting in an area a period of time, and so forth. Once spawned, Rare Game enemies do not respawn when killed: the player must leave the area and return, and meet their spawning requirements again. This can be subverted with the zone out glitch. Rare Game are a source of rare loot and other valuable items, which can variably be stolen, poached, or dropped by them.

There is a bangaa near the vendor of goods who, when spoken to, will tell the player the location where rare game has been sighted. Also, the Hunt Club's Owner on Highgarden Terrace in Archades will give the player Zodiac Gems for finding trophy monsters. Access to Highgarden Terrace is granted after getting a Sandalwood Chop from the chop collecting subquest.

Rare monsters are miniboss enemies that have a chance of showing up in certain main and free quests. Most of them drop rare weapons required for upgrading the Knickknack Shack for the Revenant Weapons quest. (This upgrade is only required once, so multiples of these weapons are not necessary when recruiting additional Guild Wars Characters.)

The Belle Sylphid summon's aura increases the chance of rare monsters appearing when they are available. Not all monsters on this list are technically "Rare Monster;" if they have the gold RM symbol and the special splash warning, their appearance rates are boosted by Belle Sylphid.

FF8 Triple Triad is one of the series' best mini-games, featuring rare cards, diverse mechanics, and main story relevance. Few of the mini-games integrated into a Final Fantasy's core experience have as significant an impact on gameplay as Triple Triad does - it can easily be manipulated from the beginning of the game to give players access to extremely powerful abilities, items, and cards that will make winning rarer ones later in the game much easier.

FF8 Triple Triad is pretty simple to pick up, and the game has an excellent tutorial that explains everything players need to know about the way the game can change rules based on region and player. This guide won't be introducing players to the basics, but will instead help those who have fallen into the long spiral of Triple Triad addiction find the rarest cards in FF8 - and offer suggestions on how to get the less rare but useful cards that will make acquiring those rare cards, which look great in FF8 Remastered's drastically improved graphics, easier, too.

Rare cards are only available from select characters in the world of FF8 Triple Triad, and some of them can be missed if players aren't careful. They're character cards that represent powerful cast members, and they're by far the most powerful in the game. Once players acquire a decent number of them, winning at Triple Triad becomes much easier, which in turn makes acquiring the rare FF8 Triple Triad cards in the late game a lot more doable, too. Here's a rundown of each card, alongside where to find them.

There are some opponents early on in FF8 Triple Triad that will offer up some powerful Level 5 cards. Cards are sorted by level in terms of their relative strength, so Level 5 cards are typically more powerful than 4 or lower - although the differences between ranks within one of each other is less pronounced, and some Level 4 cards can be contextually and strategically better than 5, and so on. With that said, though, Level 5 is definitely what players should be shooting for. Here's a quick rundown of Level 2, 3, 4, and 5 players who are accessible in Balamb Garden from the beginning of the game and can help build up a player's deck so they can win rare cards more easily when the time comes.

During these hunts, players take on a series of increasingly powerful enemies, each of which requires a slightly different strategy to overcome. Unfortunately, Final Fantasy 16 doesn't provide players with the exact locations of every Notorious Mark, with the hunt board instead only offering up the general area in most cases. However, those looking to find every Notorious Mark in FF16 can rejoice, as the following guide lets players know exactly where to look for them.

Updated August 2, 2023, by Tom Bowen: More than a month has passed since the release of Final Fantasy 16 and most players are now starting to turn their attention to some of the title's end-game content. This includes 32 Notorious Mark hunts, which players will need to complete in order to craft some of the best gear for Clive. As well as every FF16 hunt location, this guide now has information about the rewards that every Notorious Mark hunt provides as well sections for all of the hunt-related gear. As a result, finding all of the FF16 hunt locations has never been easier, though actually defeating these terrifying beasts can still be pretty challenging.

The Final Fantasy series loves to pay homage to its earlier games, and as such we see the same monsters, summons, items, names, and more appearing over and over again. So it should come as no surprise that Ixion, a summon that debuted in Final Fantasy 10, has since made an appearance in Final Fantasy 14 as a rather rare FATE boss.

The quest to acquire the Sylph summon is a rare one that doesn't involve a boss battle. To complete it, you need access to the airship upgrade that allows you to transition between the Overworld and the Underworld freely.

The problem is that these items drop from enemies incredibly rarely and are the bane of many players throughout the game's history. Thankfully, Square Enix has made the drop rate a little nicer in the Pixel Remaster, but it's still very low, and the process can be a slog.

It might not be necessary to use these specific locations to farm for summons. The table below details every enemy capable of dropping the summon items, along with their Bestiary numbers.
