Subject: FoodRoots-LifeCycles Internship Available

FoodRoots Distributors Coop has a last minute placement available beginning by August 1st and running until October 28th (13 weeks). FoodRoots will be the employer, but the employee will also work with LifeCycles Project Society and the International Women’s Catering Co-op.

 

This internship will help interns to better understand the co-op sector and the role of co-operatives and credit unions in the social and economic development of their communities. It will include a training and orientation session for interns at the beginning of their placement.

 

This position will be partially funded by the BC Coop Association. To qualify for the wage subsidy, intern applicants must:

 

·        Be a recent university or college graduate;

·        Be under the age of 30;

·        Not be currently on EI; and

·        Have not participated in a youth employment strategy program in the past

 

Position Details:

 

Start date: August 1st 2011

Hours per week: 35

Length of Internship: 13 weeks (until October 28th)

Wage: $16.75/hr

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

FoodRoots will provide co-op experience and involvement. Working with LifeCycles Project will involve supporting the Fruit Tree Project, including:

 
  • Training and coordinating volunteers;
  • Assessing, harvesting and redistributing fruit from local fruit trees and other gleaning food sources;
  • Collecting/ inputting data and maintaining various data systems;
  • Report writing;
  • Attending to office/reception duties, and booth management at various local events;
  • Assisting with FTP social enterprise business, possibly assisting with other LC programs.
 

Key Qualifications:

 

  • Must be available for an August 1st start date and available for 35 hours per week throughout this internship
  • Drivers License (Class 5 or 7) is required
  • Food safe an asset
  • Physically strong (able to frequently lift up to 40 lb boxes, maneuver ladders, and other heavy things)
  • Computer skills (including excel, word, email)
  • Ability to work as a team and also to lead a team
  • Ability to multi task
