Food Security Community Facilitator Job Posting

LifeCycles Project Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cultivating awareness and initiating action around food, health, and urban sustainability in the Capital Regional District. We work to promote and create personal and community gardens, provide educational activities and facilitate youth programs.

LifeCycles is seeking an enthusiastic person, interested in food security and urban agriculture issues, to join our team. This position goes until August 27th with a 30 hour work week.
Wage: $12.00 per hour
Start date: Thursday June 9th or as soon as possible
Application deadline: Monday, June 6th by noon
*Only participants eligible for Canada Summer Jobs will be considered.

Canada Summer Jobs Eligibility Criteria:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- Registered as full-time student in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and,
- Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

The Food Security Community Facilitator will work closely with the Education and Outreach coordinator to enhance and develop a variety of education initiatives focused on action-based food security capacity building within Victoria. Some of the key activities will include:
- Work collaboratively with the Diggers to create community and shared gardens to increase access to healthy, organic fruit and vegetables;
- Work with community partners to support the Grow a Row program and associated mentorship and educational programs and events;
- Work with community recreation centres to offer kids summer garden camps, and;
- Support community food-security and urban agriculture events and projects.

Qualifications:
- Knowledge of food security and urban agriculture
- Experience in gardening and/or small-scale food production
- Experience facilitating workshops and offering education and mentorship (both adult and child-oriented)
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to be flexible
- Creative and enthusiastic with strong problem-solving skills
- Experience working in the non-profit environment an asset
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Class 5 driver's license (a big asset, though not required)
