“Don’t Just Stand There”
Victoria AIDS Resource & Community Service Society (VARCS) and The Vancouver Island Persons with AIDS Society (VPWAS) is partnering this year on the annual Scotia Bank National AIDS Walk for Life!
When: September 20th, 2012
Where: Registration at 4:30 at Centennial Square. T-shirts, ribbons and ribbon poles will be provided!
We will have entertainment during the registration process, a couple of speakers and the walk will
leave for the legislature at 6pm sharp where we will have a closing ceremony
This walk is to honour those who fought so bravely in the beginning to pave the way for the agencies, medications and education we have today. It was also the very beginning of awareness around the stigma that surrounds HIV/AIDS.
The walk is also the biggest fundraiser for our two small agencies as the climate for government funding is very unpredictable these days.
Unfortunately, many believe HIV is not an issue any more, when in fact instances are again on the rise with those under 30 years making up more than half of all new infections. It is also very challenging to engage the community in any event or fundraising efforts for HIV/AIDS. This is why we ask for your help!
If your business would like to enter the walk as a team and collect pledges and even challenge other like minded businesses, we would really appreciate the support! You can begin by going to the website www.aidswalkforlife.ca and click on “Find Your Walk” then click Victoria’s and register your team! You then have the option to send the page out to all your contacts. You can also go to VARCS’ website at www.varcs.org and follow the Walk links.
Another way to support us is to get as many people together as possible to join us for the walk to assist us in making a strong and meaningful statement! This year’s walk will not be a candle light walk, but will focus on joy and celebration! The details are below:
