Hello Everyone,

I am going to reply to some post in my previous thread but wanted to post
this new thread before doing so.

1.
I have been up since 2:35AM with my new 14 so please forgive any typos, etc.
(smile). At about 2:30AM this morning I woke up and went to the kitchen to
get some water. While in the kitchen I thought I would take my new phone
out of the box and simply plug it in so that it would be fully charged when
I set it up and . one thing led to another and (big smile).

2.
I have been absolutely delighted with my 14 experience, so far.

3.
I don't know when it happened but at some point in the wee hours I decided
to set up the device. I did not have sighted assistance, as backup, but I
just decided to go for it. The device is somewhat larger than my beloved 8
Plus so getting comfortable with it, physically, took a few minutes. Okay,
I transferred the data from my beloved 8 Plus to the 14 via the iOS transfer
routine. I think that took about 35 minutes or so.

4.
When prompted to setup eSIM, I declined. Then, I rebooted the phone and
immediately updated to the latest version of iOS 16 which I believe it 16.2.
It's all kind of a blur at this point (smile).

5.
After the update was installed, I continued to decline the eSIM update
prompt. I did this because I knew that once my cellular account was
transferred to 14, there would be no going back to a physical SIM without
involving a new physical SIM card or going to my local wireless provider
store. I think I took about 1.5 hours or so exploring 16.2 along with the
various new options of the 14. I also wanted to insure that my core apps
would continue to function as expected. Surprisingly, they did, at least
all of the apps I could think of at 6AM did, anyway.

6.
Okay, one of the primary reasons why I wanted a physical SIM is because I
have experienced many instances in which switching my wireless account to a
new hardware SIM has caused many of my customized cellular settings to be
reset. When this has occurred, it was not a simple thing to have them
re-customized by the provider for several reasons not the least of which
being that the new representatives did not realize that such customization
was even possible. I think you get the idea. Be that as it may, at around
7AM or so, knowing that if something went wrong with the eSIM transfer I
could call customer service, I decided to take the plunge and transfer my
wireless account to the 14. The process was completely painless and worked
flawlessly. Oh, my primary wireless provider is A T & T Wireless. From
start to finish, the transfer process took about 3 minutes. Mind you, they
were the longest 3 minutes I've had in many, many years (smile). When the
process was complete, I rebooted the 14 and everything, and I do mean
everything was just as it should be. Not one single cellular setting had
been lost. Most impressive, to say the least.

7.
I realize that this post is turning into a novel so I will stop here but I
do want to mention that I encountered a low ringer volume incident that I
could not resolve, at first. The issue was that, regardless of the volume
level, either with or without VoiceOver being enabled, the incoming ringer
volume would start out quiet and get even more quiet as the ringing
progressed.

Thanks to YouTube, I discovered that the problem was the result of a Face ID
setting that needed to be disabled. So very strange.

Okay, that's all for now.

Your Exhausted Fellow Traveler,

Mark

Hi Dennis,

At present I do not have the time or energy to list the steps, today, as I am so far behind in everything that I could not do so with the same level of detail that I would expect.

Hopefully, no one else will run into the issue but if they do, we can definitely discuss it.

Thank you for understanding.

Mark

Mark when listing number 7 it would be helpful to know what setting had to be changed as this would help others.

When you have time if you could do this it would be appreciated. I looked it up it appears to be attention aware. This is found under face id and passcode you want it to off.

Hello Dennis,

What you discovered sounds absolutely right. Again, everything is a blur from this perspective, at present. But yes, I think it was the attention aware setting that needed to be toggled off.
