Does anyone here use Viber? If so, how accessible is it, as I have family members that use it.

Cheers

It used to have some significant accessibility issues, however I've not looked at it again since its first release. Would be nice if it works now.

It still has accessibility issues with the contact list and similar lists. The only things you can see are the headings and those are only the letters in the alphabet. If you know your contacts phone number, viber should work, if not and you want touse contacts, it's a no go.

Hi,
This is a member of the Viber Development Team.

I'd like to respond to your questions:
What accessibility issues are you referring to exactly? Regarding the
contacts, we don't know of any special issue with merging with your
contact list.

Thanks,
Viber.

Hi, as another user of Viber, allow me to chime in here. Just turn on Voiceover, fire up Viber and touch any of your contacts on the screen. All you will hear voiceover say is "button" instead of the name of the contact.

Thanks.

Hi there.
What i meant by "accessibility issues" is that with Voiceover, the built-in screen reading tool, when you're in a contact list and possibly other lists, the screen is blank. Nothing appears for voiceover to read exept the headers, that is "a", "b", "c" etc. The contact information, name, phone number and indication if they have Viber or not however are invisible to Voiceover. I have tried this with my contact list and even with my favorites with the same result.
I hope this clarifies things, and if not, feel free to ask more questions.
/Krister

I haven’t looked at it in any great detail, but at a first glance it looks ok.

I downloaded Viber on Friday, as it was recommended by a family member, and I can confirm that the contact list is not accessible to Voiceover.

I understand now.
At this stage, VoiceOver support is not planned in Viber. We will look
into it in the future and see whether or not it would be possible to
develop this feature.

Is there VoiceOver support in other applications? such as WhatsApp for
example..

Viber.

Yes, There is VoiceOver support in many apps and WhatsApp works very well with VoiceOver.

Thank you for the info.
We are looking into adding this feature into one of our future
versions, and hopefully it will be ready soon.

I suggest you keep following us on Facebook or Twitter for updates
regarding new versions of Viber, and at any rate - I will update you
here in this group once we add the VoiceOver feature to our
application.

Regards,
Viber

Hi.
Voiceover support is not a feature. It's simply the way an app is made. There are many apps which just works without any issues with VOiceover, simply because all the recommended standard things regarding developering apps which is described on Apples developer page under accessibility is met. I'm not saying that Viber is coded in a wrong way, but I'm just trying to explain that Voiceover support is not a feature but just the way an app is made.

Yes, when I wrote "feature", I meant that the app simply doesn't
support VoiceOver at this stage internally.
As I said, we will look into it and hopefully make the necessary
changes inside our code in order to integrate VoiceOver support soon.
