Years ago I downloaded a cracked version of SAI (1.1.0) and it came with extra brushes in the brushtex folder. I recently BOUGHT SAI and I want to learn how to add brushes for it. Simply dragging the brushes to the new SAI brushtex folder doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?
so i opened up paint tool sai 2 one day, and all of my customized brushes that i've made over a couple of years are just. gone. le poof. i tried to check the error log/history/aborted works section, but it was blank as well-- its like theres just a whole new fresh program. i did some research, and someone in 2016 had a similar problem, i think, but ill explain it again. the answer they got was to copy the brushes from the systemax folder to paint tool sai 2, which i tried, but nothing happened. when i tried to open the 'help.txt' document there was only gibberish, and the ssd file labeled 'brushes' was unopenable until i tried it with notepad and then there was gibberish again. (see below.)
Adobe Photoshop provides several tools for painting and editing image color. The Brush tool and the Pencil tool work like traditional drawing tools applying color with brush strokes. Tools like the Eraser tool, Blur tool, and Smudge tool modify the existing colors in the image. In the options bar for each of these painting tools, you can set how color is applied to an image and choose from preset brush tips. See Painting tools gallery.
Save tool presets when you want to store customized brush tip characteristics along with settings from the options bar such as opacity, flow, and color. To learn more about tool presets, see Create and use tool presets.
Along with settings in the options bar, brush tip options control how color is applied. You can apply color gradually, with soft edges, with large brush strokes, with various brush dynamics, with different blending properties, and with brushes of different shapes. You can apply a texture with your brush strokes to simulate painting on canvas or art papers. You can also simulate spraying paint with an airbrush. You use the Brush Settings panel to set brush tip options. See Brush Settings panel overview.
Sets the method for blending the color you paint with the underlying existing pixels. Available modes change with the currently selected tool. Paint modes are similar to layer blending modes. See Blending modes.
Simulates painting with an airbrush. As you move the pointer over an area, paint builds up as you hold down the mouse button. Brush hardness, opacity, and flow options control how fast and how much the paint is applied. Click the button to turn on or off this option.
(Pencil tool only) Paints the background color over areas containing the foreground color. Select the foreground color you want to erase and the background color you want to change to. (See Auto Erase with the Pencil tool.)
Photoshop performs intelligent smoothing on your brush strokes. Simply enter a value (0-100) for Smoothing in the Options bar when you're working with one of the following tools: Brush, Pencil, Mixer Brush, or Eraser. A value of 0 is the same as legacy smoothing in earlier versions of Photoshop. Higher values apply increasing amounts of intelligent smoothing to your strokes.
This brush set for Clip Studio Paint combines all other brush sets. You must update to the latest versions of Clip to install these brushes.
This set includes more than 800 Clip Studio Paint brushes. These painting, penciling, inking, and special FX tools use a wide range of custom textures, daubs, and settings to emulate traditional media and beyond.
Over 100 new brushes! Over 450 brushes total! This update is over a 50% increase in set size. Many new inking, penciling, painting, and wash brushes added. Existing tools were renamed and sorted into brush families for ease of identifying your favorites and remembering them later.
Update 1/7/16
This latest update contains new paints, pencils, and inkers with a focus on adding textured, gritty painters and expanding the core set of tools.
For the core tools, inking brushes, nibs, brush pens, pencils, pastels, charcoals, oils, and acrylics have been added.
For the advanced tools, painterly brushes with impasto canvas, wash, sponge, leather, and other textures were added.
These brushes are very good for cutting in , they hold so much paint and so easy to control I love everything thing about Purdys , best brush makes by far , I wouldn't have anything else in my van or hand
Pull it off with the three-bucket cleanup system: First off, get as much paint off of the tools as possible by wiping brushes on the edge of the paint can, or scraping rollers with a 5-in-1 tool to squeeze out the excess Nantucket Dune Taupe and Salmon Sunset Pink. Then, rather than scrubbing your brushes and rollers under a running faucet, clean them in a bucket filled with a small amount of warm, soapy water. (Think dish detergent or hand soap.) Work the paint out of the bristles, then transfer the brush to a second container of clean rinse water. Swish it around, then complete one more rinse in a third bucket. Finally, cover the buckets and take the water down to your hazardous waste collector.
Option 1 - If the brush default loaded under the Texture Paint Tool and Workspace tab is TexDraw, then the brush tries to paint with a texture. If no texture exists, it paints with a plain black square, which leaves no trace because the default color of the image texture is also black.
If that is the problem, you need to delete the texture. Then it doesn't use a texture to paint, but the plain circle of a normal brush. Then the brush strokes will show up fine. The needed section of the N panel tool section is shown outlined in red in the image.
Option 2 - the brush is 'bad', and you need to create a new brush. First delete it by clicking the x (outlined in blue in the image). By default, there are no other brushes, so the panel will change and show you the New Brush panel. Click on new. That will create a new brush, and this time it should behave with the default behavior - painting normally.
Long ago I got pressure sensitivity to work with the brush tool. It looked really good, but the problem was that it was reeeally slow. The brush is pretty slow to begin with, and adding that extra step of changing the thickness based on pressure made it unbearable.
If the artist is diligent about the care of their brushes, they can expect to get a lot of paintings out of them. My first rule in the care of my brushes is to never, under any circumstances, leave them in a cleaning solvent such as mineral spirits. VOCs in particular are very hard on brushes. Leaving your brushes sitting in thinner over the course of a painting will chemically burn the hairs and drastically shorten the lifespan of the brush.
This process has kept the interior of the washer in relatively good condition. That being said, paint pigment still builds up both on the upper interior, the agitator, and the exterior. If this has occurred with your brush washer, I found soaking the entire washer (but not the lid gasket) in white vinegar for at least 24 hours will loosen all of the built-up pigment and allow you to wipe or scrape it off, returning the brush washer to nearly-new condition.
In fact, I use flats for everything except the tiniest detail; like a highlight in an eye or signing the painting. I find I can get sharp edges with them, very large broad strokes and even a fair amount of detail using the corners.
Today, I am sharing with you the one brush that has been working for me for over 10 years. It holds the paint for a variety of strokes and washes, which is very important. I primarily use this one brush for 95% of my watercolor paintings; I use the fine point for details and calligraphy. The great news is that it costs less than $15! The downside is that it is not always easy to find.
Rinse brushes and painting equipment in a sink or basin that can capture the rinse water, so the rinse water can be disposed of in a sanitary sewer (i.e., sink or toilet). Sanitary sewer systems can digest rinse water into harmless products. However, do not pour undiluted paint into a sink or toilet.
Each one in this set is designed to provide everything you need to create complete drawings and digital art with minimal adjustments and brush changes. Over weeks and months of painting this adds up to a lot of time saved.
When finishing up a job, clean your brushes right away. When dried paint sticks to a brush, it damages the tool, sometimes completely ruining it. Follow these simple steps to ensure your brushes are properly cleaned for every painting session! Prior to washing, research how to properly dispose of your paint washout. This process may differ based on your septic system or paint type.
