I am creating a song full of time manipulation and tape stop effects, but putting gross beat in different channels and routing other channels to is is making my work disorganized and its eating my CPU. I've used glitch, and its the same thing. Is there another way, maybe with automation and fl studio's default plugin to create these time manipulations and tape stop effects?

With this shape, the first beat is the correct time, the second beat actually plays what happened one beat back in time (ie, the first beat), the third beat actually plays what happened two beats back in time (ie, the first beat), and the fourth beat actually plays what happened three beats ago (ie the first beat). The result is the first beat, played four times until the cycle restarts after four beats.

The TRON Legacy legacy ...

Gross Beat can be heard on Daft Punk's Tron Legacy soundtrack playing a major part in the rhythmic structure. Why not experiment with the same presets as were used in the soundtrack:

Volume editing is the more straightforward of the two. The horizontal axis represents time - four beats to be exact, with no customisation possible. The vertical axis represents volume, with 100% at the top.

A virtual 'spinback' is made possible by creating a steep slope that takes the virtual stylus to two bars earlier over the space of a single beat. Likewise, moving the record back and forth for scratching is doable and, when combined with crossfader-style volume patterns, can mimic the effect fairly realistically.

You can do some crazy volume manipulations by drawing with your mouse in gross beat... there are so many ways you can combine the dual volume LFO on board this thing and it even has some really useful or wild preset LFO shapes. This plugin is fantastic when you just want to get silly. Great for sidechain stuff too, though I seldom use it that way since I am very traditional and hardware oriented with 'normal' tasks like that. I should probably start using this effect for some more tame tasks, but whatever! Its a blast.

I have to say, I'm impressed. This effect is capable of a lot of stuff, and if you know what you're doing, you can sidechain with precision that's almost impossible to attain with more conventional methods. However, the plugin feels a little limited by the fact that it can only run in 4-beat loops, so if you want to customize your kick loops for anything longer than 1 bar, you'll have to automate a fair amount.

Regular software updates can help prevent gross beat clicking. Software updates often include bug fixes and improvements that can help reduce the chances of clicking. Make sure that you keep your gross beat and other plugins up to date to avoid any issues.

Make no mistake: Mr. Gross built his image on the back of spectacular returns. "It was a class act," said Moffet, whose own act had been just that.
