to Play The Violin
Is it difficult to learn how to play the violin by yourself? It
certainly is. But learning how to do anything on your own can be a
whole lot easier and definitely more fun if you apply enough
commitment and discipline to the whole process. Millions of guitarists
in every part of the world have been self-taught, and many have even
gone on to become professional musicians. The same can be applied to
someone trying to learn the violin. At the end of of it all, if you
have the dedication and perseverance, no matter how difficult it is,
the violin can be self-taught and might even be easy looking back at
it.
The first thing one needs to ensure before trying to teach himself the
instrument, is to ascertain how much desire there is to learning the
craft. If you naturally love music and the instrument, it makes
learning the violin a more enjoyable experience. That helps to
overcome certain obstacles one might face learning the ropes by
yourself.
As they say, no man is an island. That applies to learning the violin.
Even if you are to remain self-taught, be sure to find like-minded
individuals or friends who are also passionate about the same
instrument. Exchange tips and lessons that can help to improve each
other's mastery of the violin. Sharing helps to understand what one
might not be able to do so alone, while exploring new territories that
you might not have discovered cooped up in your own room during your
solo practices.
Applying discipline to your violin lessons and practice is a key
ingredient of becoming a skilled violinist, especially if you decide
to take on the self-taught route. There is no doubt that many hours of
practice will have to be dedicated, while an amount of time has to be
put aside to examine your progress and pinpoint other areas in your
violin playing that have to be improved.
Learning musical theory is also necessary when picking up the violin.
Unlike the guitar where tablature often substitutes the real need to
be proficient at music theory, the violin does not have this
advantage. It goes without saying that music theory can be tedious,
but knowing it inside out will help speed up your knowledge and
mastery of the violin in the long run.
There are many ways that you can use to teach yourself how to play the
violin. But the keys to your success lie in your passion, dedication
and discipline through constant application. If you are strong in
these areas, no matter how difficult it might be at times, learning
the violin without a professional teacher can ultimately prove to be
more rewarding.
