Has anyone figured out how to get VLC Player to provide time info, such
as elapsed time, remaining time, and total time. There is a "Customize
Interface..." item in the menus, but I have not determined how to use
it. It has a list of controls that it seems it will allow you to place
above or below the video. At the very bottom of this list are the time
info status controls. Ideally, I would like these placed in the status
bar so that orca can easily announce them with a key binding.

are you using precise, or some implementation of Ubuntu or Vinux with
kde support, or the gnome media player front end, or?? How are you using
VLC now.

I have it installed in both the Ubuntu 12.04 precise release and the
daily build of Vinux 4.0. It is fully accessible, except possibly this
Customize Interface dialog! Possibly, I just don't undersrand how to
use this dialog, or it makes more sense to the sighted. Using flat
review or the JAWS cursor or the JAWS Convenience OCR do not reveal
anything different. At least in Precise, which includes Vinux 4.0, the
shortcuts work without modifications. In Windows, I found it necessary
to write JAWS scripts to pass certain keys through to the application.
Normally, JAWS interferes!

interesting, and good news as far as the new versions go.
I've only used nvda with VLC in windows, and honestly have never needed
more than rather bsic funcions.
It sounds like we will have several important new programs accessible in
the new Vinux.

Just discovered VLC myself about a month ago. It's been the best I've
used yet on Knoppix. Am working with Version 1.1.3 "The Luggage" which
is likely 2 years old plus. The default on mine here already shows
what you are asking about. At the VERY bottom is where I see the time
elapsed option.

Based on your finding "Customize Interface", I searched for it then
checked it out. Visually that tool comes across a mess. Can't imagine
via screenreader. I'm seeing a drag-and-drop interface.

Within that interface is something called "Time". Pulled that onto
mine.. It ends up placed next to the Time Slider where you can move
back and forth within the video. The Time feature I added is
displaying same info that is already on the very bottom of my display
here.

Was nervously clicking exactly on top of the "Time" feature while
pondering your question.. Ended up accidentally discovering that
alternates the dispaly between time elapsed and actual time into the
video running..

Don't know how that will help you but there it is in case it leads to
something else that will help..

Cindy :)
