Hello all,
I have an older hp envy 15 laptop I decided I would install slint on. I am going to replace windows on it completely. With the help of my sighted son I can get it to boot up to slint but I get no speech at all. I am never given the option to enable it. It just comes up to the select language screen. So I figured I would just have him install it and then I would figure out sound issues. When we get to the partition screen which one do I use if I just want to blow away windows and install slint?

Hello Greg,
The important part of installation is that you have to have your sound
on and the screen reader will tell you that to have speech enabled
during install you have to press the letter s key.
Then it will go through your sound cards, When you hear speech, you
have to immediately press RETURN key.
Then log in as root and type setup, answer the questions, if you are
in USA the default answer is USA keyboard, American English language,
and mirrors.
You will be asked if you want to make a USB stick to boot from in case
SLINT doesn't boot. I have installed Slint four times and the one
time I didn't make a USB stick I had trouble booting SLINT. I
reinstalled GRUB when I got SLINT working again and everything is
fine.
