Hi all.
I am writing to announce my resignation from the Vinux project. Vinux
5 took quite a while to release. Ubuntu 14.04 was originally released
in 2014, and here we are a year and a half later, releasing Vinux 5,
based on Ubuntu 14.04. Granted, we have the latest hardware support and
security updates that are in the LTS, but the relevance of this release
is somewhat lessened, given that 16.04, another LTS, is about 6 months
away. Nevertheless, we went ahead and added what we could to Vinux 5 to
make it as good a release as possible.

There are a few reasons for my departure, and those closely involved
with the project, mainly Rob, know why I am leaving. I was thinking of
outlining my reasons for leaving in this post, but I have decided against
it. One thing I will say however, is that in the last couple of years, I
have found other hobbies and interests, and wish to spend much more time
on those interests, and withdrawing from the Vinux project will give me
more time for doing things outside the realm of software development.

Even though I am resigning, my involvement with the project will not
immediately stop. I am working on producing a usable VMWare based virtual
image of Vinux 5, which will allow folks who want to try Vinux to do so
freely and easily, without even having to reboot their system. There has
also been interest from the community for a command-line only flavour of
Vinux, and we have one that mostly works, but needs more love, so I will
be trying to make that workable and installable. I am not giving any of
these side projects any priority, and they will take as long as they take,
whether I end up succeeding, or otherwise.

Beyond that, I have agreed with Rob to help start building Vinux images
based on Xenial, the next LTS, which will be 16.04. The build
infrastructure we have in place is quite complex, and whilst it helps us
produce images very easily and quickly, it requires a good understanding of
many parts of the Ubuntu image building process, and some coding knowledge
in multiple languages. Hopefully, by the time the next version of Vinux
is released, we will have found a new home for the build infrastructure
(it currently resides on my file server), and someone to maintain it.

I would like to thank both Rob Whyte, and Mobeen Iqbal for their support
over the years. Mobeen and Rob, being the previous and current Vinux project
managers respectively, have always been great support. I have developed a
particularly great relationship with Rob, who I have really enjoyed working
with. Rob, I wish you well with the project, and will always be available
to have a chat with you about the project, or anything really. You know
where to find me. :)

I have learnt much whilst being involved with this project, and I am
grateful for those who I have come to know in this community. I will still
be around on IRC, and am still involved with Ubuntu accessibility, and am
doing what I can there, and in the Speech Dispatcher community to help
move things forward. If you would ever like to have a chat about Linux
accessibility/Speech, Linux in general, or indeed anything, feel free to
drop me a line at the...@ubuntu.com. You can also find me on the freenode
IRC network, and the blufudge IRC network, as TheMuso.

I wish the Vinux project and community all the best for the future.

With kindest regards.
Luke

Not only your direct work with building vinux images and various aspects of accessability has been invaluable, but your willingness to explain
things to others has been important to vinux over the years.
I wish you the best in what ever you do, and while I do not know what the future will bring to Vinux, I do know that you have made contributions that
make a Vinux future possible.
