Could someone with a relatively untampered with vinux5 installation check what permissions are for /etc/apt/sources.list.d please?
I messed mine up most likely copying some files from another machine, and if you could save me a few minutes of messing around it'd be great.
Thanks from a dummy!

Owned by root, access to group and others.

Also check the backup file or sources.list.d/ folder as permissions are
the same.
chmod 644 /etc/apt/sources.list should be fine.
I actually own my file where as other files there are owned by root as
the way I manage my mirror archive list.

Thanks for the replies Bill and Rob.
I did chmod 644, but it took areboot for the error to go away/should have rebooted before bothering you guys.
Regards,

Perhaps an apt-get clean would have purged the list for you to update it?
cheers

it claimed that it could not read files in sources.list.d, not something in the databases, but I do need to
fix Duplicate sources.list entry http://dl.google.com/linux/chrome/deb/ stable/main i386 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/dl.google.com_linux_chrome_deb_dists_stable_main_binary-i386_Packages)
W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these p
as well,
Best

The irony of the error about duplicate entries is it suggests running apt-get uupdate to fix it, and that is the only time it appears...grin
