When using Mate there are still Unity and or gnome indicators running.
Can the native mate applets not be added to show and adjust sound
volume? That is the only control that works when ever I've tested in the
indicator applet space, or at least I assume that is what it should be
called.
The classic menu indicator does not work with Mate, nor does anything
else shown there...I've not tried bluetooth, but mate has its own applet
for that as well, and having two such things fighting for resources
seems like a bad idea even if the Unity or Gnome indicator could work
from mate.
That makes three programs that should be disabled from mate's start up
applications I think it is.
If any of this works for others, please let me know/did thou do anything
special to get it to work?
I don't know if it's just luck, but my sound has not gone choppy on me
so far with latest image. It used to pretty often/not Vinux specific I
do not think, but good news if it holds.
The bash-aliases should be left for the user to enable in my opinion,
(like it always has been),if the same old aliases are going to be
included on the images.
I'd like to see some more creative and useful aliases given to inspire
folks to take advantage of this powerful/easy to use feature, but I'll
not go on any more about that.
I vote for removing the inaccessible xterm with its two desktop files to
avoid confusing folks in the already very confusing presentation with
current version of classic menu indicator
All in all, so far so stable, but I've not done any testing using gnome
with latest build/will spend some time using gnome tomorrow.
Thanks for including the alarm clock, Rob, and for keeping latest Orca
in repo Luke.
I'll report back in a day or two.
Regards,

For a good reason. I added the group of indicators because its much easier to get to them with the keyboard, super + M, and arrows to get around, as opposed to the clunky mate commands to navigate the panel and somehow, find one’s way to various applets that may or may not speak properly.

I can revert the change, but if someone is willing to document this somewhere, I think it would be a better experience for users.

Do the indicators work for anyone once there though?
If the process can be documented on how to use them perhaps this is viable.
I'll experiment tomorrow.
I did not know that super m would get me to the indicator area.
I was getting to them the same way I would have gotten to a normal set
of mate applets, i.e. control alt tab, but this was not very reliable as
is typical with mate no matter what is available...
At any rate, the only thing I found usable at all was the volume slider,
probably the mute button as well, but classic menus do not open, and as
mentioned I am not sure about bluetooth.
If I can find anything blutooth to test with I'll give it a go, but I
own no blutooth gear at this time.
While opening the panel can indeed be a problem, once there I have
always been able to read battery state, work with volume, and use many
other mate applets.
There may be no good solution here with in our reach.

Is there any difference in what I have using zsync from the nightly
builds directory and the vinux5 official release I would get from source
forge?
Thanks.
