Luke,

Console speech seems to be working pretty well. A few times when I logged
into a console session Speakup didn't come up. Logging out and back in got
it up and running. I haven't lost Orca when going back to the GUI console at
all. It definitely isn't chatty now. Sometimes I don't even hear the login
prompt. I am an old ASAP user and like chatty things. Is there a setting
somewhere that I can change to make it speak what is written to the console
window?

Best regards from Ohio,

Vic

This is probably a Speakup setting. I don't know how to do it myself,
but I don't think it's related to Luke's work.

CJ,

Luke said in a previous message:

You should also see less spurious output from the shell script that runs
whenever
you log in/out of a bash shell.

Does that sound like he changed the shell script or just how Speakup
interprets the output?

So the way I understand it, if you go into a terminal window by pressing
Control-Alt-T then Orca is doing the speaking, but if you start a console
session using the control-Alt-Fx keys then Speakup is doing the talking. Is
this correct?

Best regards from Ohio,

Vic

I assume he just changed the shell script to have fewer print/debug
statements. I assumed your question was looking to have more feedback in
a console session, like automatically hearing the output of the ls
command read to you. If this can be done, it would be in the Speakup
settings and not in anything Luke has done.

Yes, this is correct.
